MAINE, US : 5 days itinerary 🦞

Time to explore! Welcome to Portland! 🦞

Right after breakfast you can head to Victoria Mansion to discover this impressive building frozen in history. 🕰️ 

Well, the first day is obviously your arrival day! 🚙

After this full day, we stayed at Cedar Crest Inn and for us it was a first to sleep in a motel as you can see in all the American movies!

Now that you are fully awake and have well eaten, it's time for your first hike of the weekend: direction Camden Hills State Park! ⛰️

It's already time to head back after a lovely weekend exploring this beautiful state!

As we were driving from Montréal, we arrived quite late in Portland and we already had dinner on the road. 

We stayed at Portland Regency Hotel & Spa. The room was pretty spacious and luxurious. They have a valet service and you also have access to the spa that is pretty pleasant!

This city is quite charming! To perfectly start the day, go straight to The Holy Donut for a local breakfast with its famous Potato Donuts! 🍩

After visiting the Mansion, you can explore the streets of Portland and walk back to the harbour. I would invite you to explore the area, observe the fishermen working and for lunch you definitely should stop by one of the restaurants there. If you like seafood/fish/lobster, you are in the right place! 🦞 

To finish the day, you HAVE to stop by Cape Elizabeth. The view is absolutely beautiful! It's only a 15 minutes drive from the city centre and you end up in nature! 🌅

If the weather allows it, you should definitely go on a whale watching tour or you can also go on a boat tour to discover the various islands in the area! 🐋

After enjoying the view in Cape Elizabeth, it's time to drive in the direction of Camden where you will spend the next day. 🛣️

We ate at J's Oyster for typical local food but there is also Luke's Lobster right next to it if you want some choice! 

On the way, we stopped by Brunswick to have dinner. There are different restaurants but we decided on Shere Punjab as we all love Indian food and also because restaurants are closing pretty early in this area, very few are still open after 8 or 9pm. 😋

We left the motel early to take some breakfast that we bought at French & Brawn Marketplace. I have to say this place is super convenient, we could take bagels, muffins, coffee for breakfast but also they are offering all you need for a hiking lunch box! 🥪

If you walk from the store in the direction of the small harbour, you will find tables with a view over a small waterfall: the perfect spot to enjoy your breakfast! 

We decided to go for a short hike of about 5km: Megunticook Trail Head. The hike is easy/moderate, we had lunch at the top but unfortunately for us, we had a lot of fog and absolutely no visibility on the horizon... That can happen sometimes! At some point it cleared a little bit so we had some sun at the top but only there. 🌤️

We decided to move on directly to Deer Isle to change scenery and tried to escape the fog that seemed to follow us during our whole trip.

Well let me tell you, Deer Isle is a magnificent area! I would gladly come back here and only stay there! 💘

We stayed at Sand Beach to chill, swim and take some pictures. It is a very astonishing place of unique beauty with fog or not. We even spotted seals from the distance, swimming and playing! 🦭

Now it's time for your final destination for the rest of the weekend: Bar Harbor. We stopped on the way to Margaritas Mexican Restaurant for dinner and the food was really delicious! I would really recommend you to stop by and obviously the margaritas are as tasty as the food! 🍸

We stayed at Edenbrook Motel for the two last nights of the trip. The Motel is a bit outside of the city but it's affordable and that's the most important! It will just require you to pay the parking lot everytime you go to the city centre though.

I would highly recommend you to wake up early in order to grab some quick breakfast at Hannaford, the grocery store of Bar Harbor or A&B Naturals, to drive straight to Acadia National Park. 🏎️

This national park seems to be super famous and we had a loooooot of traffic jam. There were so many cars waiting to enter the park and then it was awfully long to find a spot to park. 🐌

As soon as you enter the park, drive straight to Sand Beach and park as soon as you can/find a spot. There is a parking lot but it's always full so people are parking on the side of the road, you can do it as well.

The Sand Beach is a really nice place to start with! You can walk all the way to reach the Great Head Trail. According to the time of the day and the tides, it can happen that you have to cross a few metres a river entering the sea. 🌊

The hike is super easy and flat and it provides beautiful views all the way! We had lunch from one of the viewpoints and it was lovely!

If you ask locals, they always mention Thunder Hole. It's known for the sound of thunder you can hear when waves are entering the hole. ⚡

We were not really that impressed when we went there but I think the sound really depends on the tides, the weather and strength of the waves.

As the weather worsened, the rain started to drop, we decided to head back to Bar Harbor to do some shopping and have dinner.

Bar Harbor and Acadia Park are pretty touristy, I wasn't expecting that much to be honest but it's also very lovely! There are many souvenir shops with cute tee-shirts, souvenirs, and so on. 📸

If like us, you are not yet used to eating early (around 6pm), then you should really watch out at the closing time of the restaurants and also since this city is super touristy, try to book a table in advance if possible or be prepared to wait before being seated! ⌛

We manage to find availability at Stewman's Lobster Pound. They have a wide offer of dishes so it was perfect!

Yes, it's already the last day but let's take advantage of it as much as possible! 🌠

First thing first, breakfast! This time, take the time to have a lovely brunch at 2 Cats. If you want to have a spot quite fast and not wait too long, go early because this place can be crowded! 🐈

And now it's time for a nice hike to digest!

We decided to go for the Bubbles Trail. It's a quite easy/moderate hike providing you with incredible views over Jordan Pond.

We parked at the main parking lot of the hike, it was crowded so we had to wait quite some time before getting a spot, so be patient!

You will start Bubbles Divide Trail taking spur trails up to North Bubble, South Bubble and Bubble Rock.

However, read carefully the directions given because we got lost. ⚠️

Remember the paths because we forgot to turn at some point and ended up walking to Eagle Lake until we realised it was the wrong direction. But the views were stunning and we were the only ones on the trail so no regrets! 🏞️

Before leaving, you can drive to Jordan Pond to have a last view over the area before heading back home!
