Stavanger is a cute town on the water in the middle of the fjords, and is a perfect spot to stop at on your journey in Norway, especially if you're a hiker!

WHERE TO STAY
Stavanger is an extremely walkable city right on the water. If you're intending on hiking, you'll need to either rent a car or book a guided tour. But regardless of where you stay in the town, you'll be able to stroll around the city easily! I'm a huge proponent of walking everywhere if possible, so I tend to book hotels as nearby the city center if possible.

This is where I stayed during my stay in the town, and it was perfect. Right on the water, right in the city center, and excellent service. It's the oldest hotel in the city and is a historical landmark. I could not recommend this place enough.

Thon Hotel Stavanger

This is a chain hotel that's also right in the city center and is in a location that makes everything extremely close. It's a bit cheaper than the Victoria Hotel.

A bit higher on the hill than the other two hotels on the list, but another chain hotel that's still decently located in the city.

You also have the option of Airbnb, but those spots will likely not be as close to the downtown wharf area. Regardless, there are several options that could suit your budget!
