Brussels is great for architecture, art, and history, but let’s be honest: we’re mostly here for the food. Beer. Waffles. Chocolate. Fries. And a few you may not realize were Belgian specialties! In this guide, you'll find: - recommendations on typical dishes to order - 10 restaurants at varying price points - 6 bars and breweries - 4 waffle spots and 2 breakfast places - 3 of the best chocolatiers in the city - 5 hotel options ranging from budget to 4 stars - an interactive map to help navigate you to each spot

Belgium is a surprisingly great food country. In addition to having some of the best fries, waffles, beer and chocolate around,

Additionally, Belgian cuisine has a lot of classic dishes reminiscent of French food, so you're spoiled for choice!

Typical lunch & dinner Belgian dishes

🍟Fries are Belgian, not originally French! The best place to get them is a food truck, because you know they're freshly fried. Traditionally they should be fried twice at different temperatures, so if you see two fryers in the truck, that's a good sign. But they're on every menu in Belgium.

🦪You can't get more Belgian than a great big bowl of mussels! The traditional preparation is with white wine, but most places offer a few different options. These are best shared!

🥘Flemish beef stew (aka Carbonnade Flamande)  is one of the best I've ever tasted. The flavors are rich and hearty, perfect on a cool day but so delicious you've love it on a warm one!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
