Why the Colombian Eje Cafetero?

Main reasons to visit the Eje Cafetero region:

- Colombia produces one of the best-ranked coffees in the world

- That area is part of the UNESCO world heritage convention because of its beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage

- If you like hiking, there are a lot of hiking routes to visit and amazing landscapes

- It is also possible to do bird-watching and visit "pĂĄramos" in the area

- It is surrounded by colorful small towns

How to get there?

The coffee region has three main cities: Manizales, Pereira, and Armenia.

The three cities have airports and are connected by bus with the other big cities like BogotĂĄ, MedellĂn, and Cali.

Thus, you can arrive by flight or bus to Manizales, Pereira, or Armenia and start the trip from there. You can also easily travel by bus or car between the three cities, they are very good connected.

Day 1 and 2 - Salento (QuindĂo)

Salento is a small colonial town in the Eje Cafetero. The town is full of colorful houses and is surrounded by mountains around.

The atmosphere is very calm, there are lots of coffee shops with coffee growth in the region as well as arts and crafts from the region.

My suggestion is to stay at least two nights in Salento so you are able to do a coffee tour, visit and enjoy the town, and visit Valle del CĂłcora.

Here, I leave some of this places mapped.

Day 3 - Filandia (QuindĂo)

Filandia is another small colonial town in the eje cafetero. It is smaller than Salento but also is full of colorful houses and is surrounded by mountains around.

It's less crowded than Salento and from there you can book a 3 hour tour to see the monkeys of the region.

Day 4 - Santa Rosa de Cabal

On your way back to Pereira, you can stop in Santa Rosa de Cabal which is a small town where you can find thermal spring natural pools. The place also has hotels if you would like to spend a night there.

Extra tip: Review that the hotel you book has direct access to the spring waters that way you will enjoy it more!

If you arrive or return from Manizales, there are other thermal spring natural pools around that city 🙂

Bonus for hiking lovers

If you're a hiking lover there are plenty of routes in that area to enjoy, Particularly, there are several routes in the "Parque Nacional de los Nevados" (Snow-capped Mountain Natural National Park).

If you're interested in reviewing some of those options you can find them in the guide I've made with that information ⬇️ !

Bonus for the ones staying in Manizales

If you stay in Manizales, you can also visit the Snow-capped Mountain "Nevado del Ruiz" even if you're not a hiking lover. Usually, tours take you almost to the top of the mountain, so you have to do a very small effort to see the snow.

If you are a hiking lover, I highly recommend the guide mentioned before.
