Tagazout/ Tamragth/ Sidi Ifni Guide
The three cities are only 20-40 minutes apart, but every single one gives a different vibe. Agadir is the biggest one, with the market and the other two are real surf towns. Tamragth is very quite and not a lot going on compared to Taghazout were Tourists flood the streets and shops are open all day.
General information
Airport
Agadir has a big international airport, which makes it easy to get there.
When you get out of the plane, you'll have to go through the passport control first. It's a bit of a chaos but way better then Marrakesh where you often have to wait over two hours to get out. They'll ask where you stay, have the Hotel or Airbnb prepared. Next get your luggage and don't exchange money inside yet. It's the worst rates I've seen in the country. Go through the exit, 'No declared goods', you'll probably still have to put your luggage through an x-ray. Now you can exchange money. Here you'll find several stands, probably empty and at way better rates. Outside, on the right you'll find taxis, Compared to Asia this is very relaxed and there won't be 50 drivers running up to you offering rides. You'll need to ask someone.
Drone
They're not allowed in Morocco. So it's not worth bringing one at all. If you did bring your drone you'll have to declare it at the airport. Leaving it for three days won't cost you anything and up to 20 days its 201 MD.
In case you made it out of the airport and didn't realize it wasn't allowed (like me :D) well then you got a problem. They check every single bag on the way into the airport and at the check in again, so they will definitely see it if you try to hide it somewhere. I went back to the airport and told them what happened. They let me declare it then and I was able to pick it up on the day I left. Very friendly people, even though they don't speak a lot of English.
Money
The currency is Moroccan Dirham 1€ = 10,9 MD.
You're better of with cash as most markets and restaurants only take cash and always keep in mind that the banks here and at home charge a lot of fees to use an ATM. You save tons by changing cash. We went to a place in Tamraght 4 times and she always gave as the exact amount and did a really good job. Also have in mind that you can't exchange money in Taghazout and there are only two ATMs.
Language
Local Language Arabic and Amazigh, most of them speak French too, but you get through with English.
Transportation
Taxi
Always ask the driver how much it will be before you sit in the car. We usually paid what the driver asked, but most will haggle a little.
- Airport to Agadir 200 MD- Airport to Tamragth 300 MD- Agadir to Tamragth 100 MD- Agadir to Taghazout 150-200MD - Tamragth to Taghazout 50 MD
Public Bus
These are quite cheap and drive regulary. From Taghazout-Tamraght its 5.5MD
Bus long distance
You can book them over their website. They can book out sometimes, so maybe reserve them 1-2 days earlier.
At the bus stop you'll need to get a luggage sticker, we paied 9.5 MD cash.
Bus from Agadir to Sidi Ifni costs 95MD/p.P and takes about 4h. Bus from Agadir to Marrakesh costs 120MD/p.P and takes about 3h.
The website is in French but it's understandable.
Campervans
You can park kind of everwhere, no one really cars. You definitely won't be camping alone here. Lots of spots along the beach and the coast. I recommend searching for places on Park4Night.
Food
You can get the traditional dish - tagine with either veggies, fish or meat everywhere. They can taste really goot, but we honestly had one which was a massive no go at La petit kawa - restaurant. Otherwise you'll find a lot of Tacos and Burgers. Around 7pm all the restaurants get full and it can happen that you wait forever to get your food or even drinks. So if you're a more impatience and hungry person go earlier.
Clothes
Wear appropriate clothes. Local woman wear the traditional djellaba here and you should cover shoulders and knees at least. You can lay at the beach in a bikini, but people will be looking. You might feel more comfortable at touristy spots. Tamraght and Banana village is more local and woman all go swimming in cloths. Taghazout is full with tourists that all don't care.
Surfing
You can surf all along the coast, obviously depending on the swell and so on. Winter is high-season for surfing which normally goes till end of April- May. You can rent Surfboards and wetsuits everywhere. It's easy to book a lesson. If you are considering surfing a lot with a teacher then it might make sense to go to one of the many surf camps here. We stayed at a few different ones but Camino surf in Sidi Ifni was honestly the best one of all of them. Considering the surf, teachers, equipment, food and place we stayed at. If you're a really good surfer and don't bring your board, you should check with some places first if they have a nice board for you.
Tamraght
Hotels
We have also stayed at Free Birds Hostel and it was really not good. It's so dirty and we haven't seen them clean once in the 8 days we have been there. It's not worth the price and has really good ratings on Booking.com what we did not understand at all. There are broken things laying around and dirty cloths. The kitchen only has one gas worked for 8 people. I wouldn't go there.
Restaurants
Taghazout
It's a cute little town with a very colourful vibe, alive with people skating and surfing. Restaurants where ever you look and the delicious smell hanging in the air. This is a good place to visit if you're learning how to surf and you want to spend time with other people and around other tourists.
Hotel
Restaurant
Sidi Ifni
All the way into the south you can find this little surfer paradise. You only come for surfing a week or two. Make your way down here and enjoy a bit calmer surf then in Taghazout. Better waves and less people.
Hotel
Here the Link to the Surf camp. We loved it and can definitly recommend it.
Restraurants
Agadir
The Towns attraction is mainly the big market, which is worth a visit. As you arrive at the airport here you could just plan a day to visit the market.
Hotel
Incase you want to stay a night after you arrived or the night before your flight, I can recommend this hotel. The owner is very friendly. They have a pool table and a beautiful terrace. The breakfast is included and delicious.
