FREE Guide: 7 Plant-Based Sushi Spots in LA 🍣

I recently had the pleasure of trying Kusaki, a plant-based omakase sushi restaurant that recently opened in LA. If you don’t know what omakase is, it’s a form of Japanese dining in which guests leave themselves in the hands of a chef and receive a meal which is seasonal, elegant, artistic and uses the finest ingredients available. Everything we tried was incredible - from the nigiri, sashimi, crispy rice, coconut pudding dessert, sweet corn roll, rainbow roll and mushroom burger. I’ve never had sushi in this way before - especially after going vegan! What a treat. This restaurant was truly impressive, and I reccommend it to anyone (plant-based or not) to try it if you’re looking for an incredible sushi dining experience. This would make a nice date spot!

This was one of the first all vegan sushi restaurants that I went to in 2017. It is such a lovely restaurant with creative sushi on their menu! It's a smaller restaurant with dim lighting, nice spot to go for an intimate setting.

Another delicious plant-based sushi spot. I've eaten them at Vegandale Food Fest, but they also have a brick and mortar restaurant coming March 2023. Some of their dishes include: Scallop Towers - thinly sliced Organic king oyster scallop layered with thinly sliced lemon, tomato, & caviar and topped with micro greens with habanero ponzu. Maitake Hand Roll - Sautéed Maitake, cucumber, daikon sprouts with siracha. Golden Niku Nashi Cut Roll - Crab, Cucumber deep friedin panko topped with avocado with unagi, spicy aioli, siracha, & green onion

This is a great spot for if you are looking for something casual, but also with delicious rolls! You walk up to the restaurant to order and can either order the sushi to go or you can eat outside on the tables. I went with a friend for a casual lunch on a Saturday, and we sat and talked for 3 hours. Great spot for something delicious and casual like this.

This is not a fully vegan restaurant, but this is a favorite among my friends. It is a revolving sushi bar. There are a few veggie-friendly options here - note that there isn't a ton of creative options, moreso simple ones - but it's a fun place to go with friends who aren't vegan - you'll still have a great time!

The Plant Lab is a food truck that serves all vegan and plant-based sushi! Everything is delicious. I've visited them at First Fridays on Abbot Kinney, perfect for something casual or an outing with a friend and you are craving sushi that is also creative! A lot of the rolls also have science-themed names like “Marie Curie” and “Edison.”

Oono Sushi is a food stand, which can be found at Vegan Exchange in North Hollywood, typically every Sunday. They can aslo be found at other vegan food festivals. I love their tempura sushis! This is a fun stand to go to if you are looking for an event to go to with a friend.
