Brunch in Brno
Get Brunchin'
From sweet to savory to everything in between, this list will feature multiple top brunch locations throughout Brno that I've personally taste tested myself!
#1 Brunche's
Brunche's is really the queen of all Brno Brunch locations! Although it has a humble exterior, the food is anything but. The pancakes are delicate and soft and stacked in a gorgeous mound on your plate, and the savory options are equally as beautiful and satisfying. With all of these rich foods, Brunche's breaks it up with refreshing fresh fruits and salads decorating your entire plate in what I would say is a harmonious balance of everything you could ever love in a brunch.
Insider tips:
- Brunche's is more of a local spot, and English isn't commonly spoken by the staff , but they're very open and kind to some pointing and charades.
- In addition, Brunche's has a small seating room and a reservation is needed on both weekdays and weekends if you want to skip the waiting time (although waiting for a spot in a line isn't common practice in the Czech Republic amoungst locals).
- The establishment is cash only, and usually the meal with a coffee will total to around 300-400 KC. There is an ATM around the corner around a 3 minutes walk away (tagged in a link below).
- Parking is sparse (but free) so be prepared to have to search the roadside parking for a while!
#2 Koffein
Insider tips:
- The staff is pretty young and English is spoken by most staff, and they're all pretty friendly except for one member (who, yes, I'm going to throw shade) was super rude to me. Which unfortunately as a foreigner in Brno, happens. So, que sera, que sera.
- This bistro takes cards! Your average meal will cost around 250-350 KC.
- On most weekdays you won't need a reservation, but on the weekends I would make sure I have one!
- Parking is sparse. Be careful not to park anywhere in the blue lines as this is residential parking and you could get fined! Public transport to this location is simple enough and I recommend it. The #4 tram line towards Namesti Miru drops you off right in front!
#3 Bavard
Insider tips:
- English speaker friendly! Anywhere here in the city center is usually pretty fluent, and Bavard is a testament to that statement.
- Bavard is cash only, so make sure you stop by an ATM before sitting down (link to closest ATM (bankomat) below). The average meal costs around 300-400 KC
- You shouldn't need a reservation unless you have a larger party coming in, and during the warmer months they have wonderful outdoor seating that's nearby a lovely little church (it looks like any other church from the outside but the inside is nothing short of breathtaking, best church in Brno, link below).
- No parking at all at this location, but it's downtown so walking (5 mins from the main train station) or taking tram #1 or #4 will get you close!
#4 Cafe Podnebi
A cafe after my own heart. If I was writing this list out of sentimentality, this would be at #1, but in all honestly, it should be at the top of the honorable mentions. I just didn't have the heart to do it!
Podnebi has the most lovely outdoor seating in the entire city. You're surrounded by walls of ivy and cute little wooden outdoor chairs and tables filled with happy and artsy and beautiful people, all sharing their stories and thoughts with their friends and classmates.
Insider tips:
- Tons of seating, meaning that you rarely need a reservation, unless it's a large group. I hosted a birthday brunch here, and they even let me bring in some decorations and a birthday cake! Overall, a lovely place for a chat and a smoke (if you're into that sort of thing) and a cup of coffee.
- Accepts cards and everyone speaks English
- Street parking only, so happy spot hunting! If you take a tram, take #4 towards Namesti Miru and hop off at Komenskeho Namesti.
Honorable Mentions
These are the brunch spots that although popular and decent, aren't to my taste, but still deserve a little mention in the chance that it's of yours!
- SKØG Urban Hub, mostly vegan and vegetarian food options, isn't the tastiest but has a GOOD VIBE. I love the metal and wood aesthetic and the crackly floor hoards and the Edison bulb lighting. It's my #1 spot for a coffee and a study session, hands down.
- Botanic Bar & Bistro is a funky little place that has a savory and multicultural take on brunch. It's really fun and flavorful, but sometimes just misses that satisfaction of a good traditional brunch. It's great for something new!
- Coffee Trail is aesthetically the cutest brunch cafe, also located right next to Brno's prettiest park, Luzanky. This location out of the two is the one to go to! Their coffee is nice, the staff is English speaking, and they take card! The downside is that it's overhyped and the buzz has created long waiting times to get a table, and they don't take reservations on weekends. The food isn't flavorful to me, and so in the end it's a great place for a coffee, not brunch.
- Kafec is a place for waffle lovers. I'm not a waffle lover, and from what I've tried, they're *decent* waffles, but my partner loves this place and so do my friends, so I'll put it here in the honorable mentions.
