3 Days in Prague: Top 5 Places & MORE!

Located at the top of a beautiful park, Petřín Tower gives the highest perspective of Prague. It is technically at the same altitude as the Eiffel Tower. There is also a lower lookout deck if you need a break from the steps or don't love heights. However, I would encourage you to keep going!

There's plenty to see in the centrally located Old Town Square; beautiful architecture and history, adorable al fresco cafes, as well as the starting point for many Prague tours from the Prague City Tourism Visitor Center!

If you’re looking for Prague history, I recommend the Old Town Underground Tour, where you can learn about the ancient city before it was what we see today. The walking tour is one to two hours long and the access to the underground sites is not connected by tunnels, but it is packed with Prague's unique evolution and you may find some intriguing spots along the way.

Charles Bridge is a beautiful stone arched bridge crossing the Vltava River and connecting the Old Town area to the Prague Castle area. It is decorated by various baroque style statues depicting saints and patron saints that were originally erected around 1700. 

The statues that adorn the bridge today are replicas of the originals, and the originals have been sprinkled throughout the city of Prague in areas where they can be protected. They are like Easter eggs to find as you wander! We found three of them during our treks around Prague!

While you're here, it's worth climbing the stairs of the Malá Strana Bridge Tower for a gorgeous view over the river and the city! This was one of my favorite views of Prague (which is saying something) because the tower is so centrally located.

Test your legs with a climb of 287 steps to the top of St Vitus' south tower! Seeing the ornate roof and spires up close, plus a gorgeous view of the city, is an incredible reward. Note: access to the tower requires an additional ticket.

This cathedral is a prominent and stunning example of Gothic architecture, and is the largest and most important church in the country. Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, the cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex.

The castle has stationed sentries guarding each side of the gate who are stoic and not permitted to react to the public during their watch. The guards are changed out every hour, but at noon every day, they have a Changing of the Guards ceremony with formal fanfare and banner exchange. Crowds start to gather around 11:45 am, so make sure to find a good seat in Hradcany Square with a view of the entrance so you can watch. 

Walk through the beautiful park approximately (10-15 min uphill, which can be challenging for some due to the steep switchbacks), OR zip right to the top by taking the Újezd funicular railway. A third option is to walk up the hill to the middle station Nebozízek (6-7 mins uphill) and take cable car from there. 

There is also a cafe at the base, so consider relaxing here before your climb, and also whether you need to use the restroom before climbing to the top! Once you're up there, you don't want to have any urgent matters to attend.

Frankly, the park of Petrin Hill is beautiful, but there's nothing wrong with admiring it on the way back down, right?

Ok, enough of the gothic and baroque styles... let's see something truly unique!

You have to purchase a drink or something from the cafe in order to be granted access to the rooftop (or pay a small fee), which for us was an easy decision!

There are a few locations offering boat rentals on the river, and if you have an hour to spare, this is a relaxing and fun activity. Don't worry, the pedals are easy -- unlike a lot on this guide, this one is not much of a workout. Take a snack and make it a picnic! 

While the Monastery is beautiful, people don't just visit for intellectual reasons... Have a Czech beer at the craft Brewery nextdoor!

You'll see bakeries everywhere selling Trdelnik, or "chimney cakes" in English. They are made with layers and layers of dough on a cylindrical spit. It is then covered in sugar and baked on an open fire. So think "croissant," meets "beignet," meets cinnamon roll -- heaven! You can even order them filled with fresh-churned ice cream, nutella, fruit and cream, etc... Do NOT resist this temptation!

The Metronome now stands in place of what used to be a monument of Stalin. In 1962, the monument was blown up with 800 kilos of explosives. Since 1991, the marble pedestal forms the base of the giant kinetic sculpture of a Metronome called The Time Machine.

Always check the weather before your trip! Prague's climate does have four seasons, but they tend to be mild. Even in the summer, you may want to pack a light jacket or wrap for the mornings/evenings/rain. But don't forget to apply your sunscreen, regardless of the day's forecast!

I believe the more you walk, the more *unplanned magic* you can discover on a vacation. Plus, you'll sleep better! Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes with plenty of support, because those beautifully laid cobblestones make up practically the entire city. If you plan to dress up, I also recommend block heels or wedges over stiletto heels, for this reason.

Again, consider the cobblestone streets and sidewalks. Do you really want to lug a large roller suitcase over those to get to your accommodations? You may be able to avoid frustration by packing a large backpack or duffel. 

There are MANY places in Prague that are cash only, and Czechia has it's own currency -- called Crowns. Be sure to exchange a decent amount of cash before you embark on your adventure! You can do this at the airport, train station, or sometimes they are near more touristy areas of the city. Just ensure you scope them out before you get desperate, because the exchange rates can be higher!

Prague Annual Weather Averages by Month

When we visited Prague, I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting to see so many TRACKSUITS! This slavic city is about comfort, not fashion. You'll be happier in your easiest and breeziest.

Letna Park, or Letenské sady, is a beautiful tree-laden paradise with paths that snake up the hill giving you yet another awesome vista.

Prague citizens know that the Metronome is a symbol of harmony in the world, so if the Metronome is currently stopped when you visit, it is to signal that somewhere in the world, harmony is missing. Right now, in 2023, it is stopped for Ukraine.

I could not recommend this tour highly enough. On your scrooser (like an electric scooter with a seat) you will cruise to most of the points of interest included in this guide, in a quick and fun way. Your guide will even take your photo at each of the stops, which is great for couples and families who want photos together!

Prague is indisputably one of the most breathtaking cities. A city full of color and detail, everywhere you look is a work of art, and its rich history is written in the stones of every ancient structure. Unlike most of Europe, Prague was left practically untouched during the wars, so here you can enjoy structures that have been around since even the Medieval Ages!
