Guide to sailing in Croatia. Everything you need to know about your charter.
What are the sailing conditions like?
Croatian sailing season runs from April till November and is quite long. The best period to come to Croatia depends on the kind of vacation that you would like to have. During the peak of summer, July and August, temperatures are typically around 30°C (86°F). This is a great time to enjoy a Croatian charter. In May/June and September/October, it usually drops to around 23°C (73° F). The time of year will affect the charter pricing.Croatia’s summer winds are mostly from the north-west (Mistral and Tramontana), averaging wind speeds of 7 to 8 knots which increases to a comfortable force 4-5 (10 to 20 knots) on some afternoons, providing some exhilarating fun for sailing. It’s important to check forecasts regularly when you’re sailing in Croatia to avoid being surprised by the ‘Bora,’ a northeasterly. September and October will provide you the right winds to set sails with prolonged periods of the Bora (strong north wind) and the Scirocco (humid east-southeast wind).During the season the charters usually run from Saturday till Saturday.
What are the main costs you need to consider while planning a boat charter?
The price of your charter yacht varies according to the type of the boat, location, charter time and time of booking. Motor yachts and catamarans are usually more expensive than monohull sailboats. Early booking offers usually last until the end of January and can go up to 20% and last minute offers start around three weeks before the charter period and can go up to 35% off!
What are the costs of mooring in Croatia?
A mooring buoy is estimated to be around 20 to 60 Euros per night. It provides privacy on all Croatian charters. Mooring in a city port or marina costs more, approximately 40 to 200 Euros per night, for catamarans, is usually + 50%-100% (they offer fresh-water refills, shore power along with showers, toilet facilities, restaurants, and cafes). It’s best to mix up the options for a balance of both throughout the charter week.Note that the date of your sailing trip, and the size of the boat can affect the price of mooring. By exploring Croatia and berthing in destinations that are a bit further from the main touristy towns and marinas, it usually makes your yacht charter in Croatia more affordable. Anchoring in Croatia is free, except in a few places where you will be chargedFor prices in ACI Marinas, you can check directly on their web pages.
