Georgia in 4-5 Days

Georgia in 4-5 Days

John Ainscough
Georgia must be up there as one of our favourite countries of all time. The scenery, the hospitality and the food were all 5 stars and we will go back for a longer trip one day. But can it be done in a long weekend? You can't possibly experience all its highlights in just a few days, can you? We found ourselves with a few daysfree in our calendar and wanted to make the most of our time. Renting a rugged UAZ Buhanka 4x4 from Overlando.com, we planned an entire overlanding trip that promised to be full of adventure and breathtaking scenery. Here's our guide on how to experience some of Georgia's most stunning landscapes, charming guesthouses, and unique cultural experiences in just 4 days.

Day 1: Drive to Khvamli Mountain

Morning:

Pick Up Your UAZ Buhanka: Get ready to hit the road with your fantastic 4x4 ride from Overlando.com. This vehicle is perfect for the rugged Georgian terrain. We stopped of at a local supermarket and stocked up on enough provisions and fuel for the next few days.

Drive to Khvamli Mountain: This is a big drive, but totally worth it. The journey is filled with stunning landscapes that will have you stopping for photos frequently. It should take you around 6-7 hours.

Evening:

Overnight Stay on Khvamli Mountain: After a long drive, settle in for the night. The morning view is something you won’t want to miss. There are plenty of spots if you are confident enough to take the vehicle off the beaten track for a couple of hundred metres. We found the most beautiful spot, lit a fire and got settled in for the night.

You may think this is a bit far but we prefered to get the big drive done as soon as possible and work our way back over the next few days.

Enjoy the Morning View: Wake up early to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the mountains. The fresh mountain air and serene environment are the perfect start to your day.

Afternoon:

Drive to Oni: After getting soaked in a sudden storm, we decided to head to Oni, a charming village nestled in the mountains.

Evening:

Stay at a Local Guesthouse in Oni: Experience Georgian hospitality at its finest. Our stay with a local family included indulging in delicious home-cooked meals and sampling homemade cha cha (a traditional Georgian spirit).
