How to get there

There are a few ways to reach this beautiful town, and it will depend on your personal trip around the country. For the simplicity of this guide, I will only talk about ways to get there from Oslo or Bergen, the country's main cities.

By Train

The most scenic way to reach Flam is by taking the train. You can catch the train from Oslo or Bergen. Both journeys offer stunning views and connect to the Flam Railway, which is often referred to as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.

By Car

If you prefer to drive, you can reach Flam by car. It's approximately a 4-5 hour drive from Oslo or a 2-3 hour drive from Bergen. The roads offer picturesque views but be prepared for winding mountain routes. If you're coming from Oslo, you'll likely drive through the world's largest road tunnel, the Lærdal Tunnel.

By Bus

There are bus services that connect major cities to Flam. You can check schedules and book tickets in advance; the bus services are less common from the bigger cities since trains are very efficient.
