Some basics to get started:
Language
Bosnian is the official language of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most people also speak German or English, with younger generations generally fluent in English. To impress the locals, try using a few Bosnian phrases: 'Ćao' (Hi), 'Hvala' (Thank you), and 'Živjeli' (Cheers).
Currency
The currency in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the convertible mark (BAM). Sarajevo is generally card-friendly, with most restaurants and stores accepting credit and debit cards. However, for cafes, markets, smaller shops, taxis and parking fees, you’ll need cash.
Get here
Sarajevo International Airport is the city’s main airport, located 12 km from the city center. It takes about 20-40 minutes by car, depending on traffic. There is also a shuttle bus between the airport and the old town with daily departures.
