Ultimate Travel Guide: Zaragoza

During my time in Barcelona, I decided to go to Zaragoza for a few days, and it didn't disappoint me! The city isn't as big as Barcelona, but if you're looking for a short city break, I really recommend visiting Zaragoza! This guide will tell you everything you'll need to know if you're planning on visiting this city.

Best time to visit?

If you want to be sure to have some good weather during your time in Zaragoza, I would recommend going during the summer, from June till September. However, I went in November and even though there was some rain, the temperature was still quite pleasant. So if you don't want it to be too hot, spring and autumn are a good time to go to Zaragoza. The city has many great festivals and events during the year, but the main event is Fiestas del Pilar, which is held every October for ten days. I sadly didn't get the chance to see it, but I've heard it's pretty impressive to see!

How to get there?

If you're flying from another country, Zaragoza has its own international airport, located about 16 km outside of the city. There are many airlines that fly directly to this airport, depending where you're coming from of course, such as Ryanair and Wizz Air.

When I visited the city, I came from Barcelona and the easiest way to go there was by train. We took the high speed AVE train from Barcelona-Sants station to Zaragoza-Delicias station. It will take you a little less than 2 hours to get there, so it's pretty easy. Prices range from €12 to €50 euros, depending on when you're going and when you're booking it. These high-speed trains drive through the whole country so if you're traveling from another city, you will most likely be able to take the AVE train.

Another way, which takes a little more time, to go to Zaragoza from another Spanish city is by bus. The company you will have to book a ticket with is called ALSA and they offer lots of trips between Spanish cities.

How to get around?

The center of Zaragoza isn't very big, which makes it really easy to get around the city. During my time here, I didn't use public transportation, we just walked everywhere since most of the highlights were within walking distance. However the city has a good bus and tram network that covers lots of areas. A single bus/tram ride will cost you $2 and can be used for an hour. If you're planning to use public transportation more frequently, think about getting a Zaragoza Card. You can choose between a 24-, 48- or 72-hour pass. The benefit of this card is that it also includes free entry to several highlights and discounts at some restaurants, bars and shops.
