With it being forecasted for the Aurora Borealis to be its strongest this winter for the next 50 years, sleeping amongst the snow while the northern lights shimmer across the night sky and seeing them from bed is on everybody’s bucket list for this winter, even if they don’t like the cold! In Lapland, you are spoilt for choosing where to stay and what you can experience at these incredible resorts. From private saunas to husky sledging, each hotel/ resort has a unique opportunity for its guests. The next 4 locations are among some of the best in Lapland.

Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

This highly well-known resort gathers a lot of attention each year because of its complete glass dome structure. Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort has a lot to offer, most noticeably its activities. These activities range from Aurora Hunting and downhill Skiing to Husky and Snow-Mobile Safaris, as well as Ice Karting. The resort can be found close to Saariselka in northern Lapland, and the resort’s closest airport is Ivalo Airport, which is roughly 29 mins or 37km away from the resort.

Kakslauttanen Resort is very nice on the exterior. However, it seems dated on the interior. The bed sheets consist of zebra-style patterns and wooden chalet themes, which are nice but just like that modern, relaxing feel that people look for when wanting to stay in Lapland. The resort is well-priced and offers good value for money. Like many others, I would stay at this resort, but only if I was short on options.

Aurora Pyramid Glass Igloos

These glass igloos aren’t as well known as some others. This resort does glass igloos differently, the shape of the igloos are pyramids. This sleek design helps this resort to stand out among the rest; there are a lot of glass igloos around but not many glass pyramids. This resort’s closest airport is Kittilia Airport, roughly a 25-minute drive away (31km). Similarly to the other resorts in the area, Aurora Pyramids offers a good range of experiences, many of which seem to be aimed at a younger age group, such as feeding the reindeer and visiting Santa’s workshop. The resort also has plenty for adults, such as a Reindeer safari and a snowmobile experience.

The Interior of these pyramids is the same as the exterior – sleek and Modern. Relaxing at this resort definitely won’t be difficult; however, finding things to do might be an issue once you’ve done what you came for, although the value for money.

Santa’s Hotel Aurora & Igloos

This resort only has 30 standard rooms and 10 Glass Igloos to its name. However, these rooms come at a great price. Located in Lousto, 115km and a 1 hour 15 minute drive away from Rovaniemi, this resort is fairly hard to reach and in the middle of nowhere. There aren’t many extra activities at the resort, making this resort potentially not as good as the other. Santa’s Hotels are found all across Lapland, and there are many others to choose from.

The accommodation at this resort is worth the asking price. However, you’ll find yourself driving a lot of places to find things to do. Walking and hiking trails can be found in the area, as well as Snowshoeing and Snowmobiling. The hotel provides complimentary parking for anyone who arrives on four wheels.

Northern Lights Village Levi

The most well-known resort in all of Lapland has to be this one. Nestled in the Pine forests of Lapland just 27 minutes away from Kittlia Airport (35km), this resort is even on my bucket list! The location of the resort is really good just 15 minutes away is the small ski town of Levi, where you can rent skis for a day or even try some ice driving. At the resort, there are an endless amount of things to do, from aurora hunting on snowmobiles and photography workshops to snowshoeing and reindeer safaris. All activities are an extra charge however, breakfast is included at this resort.

The resort’s remote location allows for spectacular views of the Northern Lights. Each room is equipped with an alarm that is designed to go off when the northern lights appear. The glass windows are equipped with laser heaters to make sure snow doesn’t settle on the windows; there are tea and coffee sets as well as an electric fireplace. The modern design of this resort makes you feel at home and gives you a sense of comfort and peacefulness. There are only 40 rooms, which makes the resort small but pricey, but it is worth the stay, with a countless number of activities, this resort is among the best in Lapland and would be my go-to choice.
