Koh Kood is a lesser-known island that many people skip during their trip to Thailand, as it is not a party island. However, I found Koh Kood to be one of the prettiest islands in Thailand I have ever been to.
It is quiet but so authentic, wild and full of nature. Perfect for a weekend getaway, diving or honeymoon! It has a lot of beautiful resorts.
In this guide, I will show you my recommended places and activities and general tips.
From Bangkok, it is an 8-hour trip with a bus and a catamaran. I booked it through www.12go.asia
The bus ride is very simple, not very luxurious, and it is composed by a minibus + VAN + catamaran.
It is important to be aware of the stops and where to go, as you will share the minibus with people going to Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Chang, the 3 islands of Trat. The bus will drive to Trat and then a VAN will be destined to each island. Make sure to hop on the right van!
I would recommend to visit 2 or the 3 islands during your trip.
- Koh Chang: most known island. It is called the "elephant island", however, some people find it too touristic or boring. It has beautiful beaches, though!- Koh Mak: the smallest and quietest, but has incredible resorts and hotels. Perfect to disconnect and relax!
- Koh Kood: my personal favourite as it is a mix of the other two; it has activities, hikes, waterfalls and things to do as well as stunning resorts and spectacular beaches.
On a note, there are no taxis in Koh Kood, but do not worry, transfer from the Pier to your accommodation is INCLUDED in the trip. Also, pick up when you leave!
General tips
- Bring cash to pay
- Rent a motorbike, there are NO taxis here! Only private charters can be requested at hotels.
- no need for 5am waking up to be alone in beaches and places, the island is not touristic and will never be packed! it is the best :)
incredible Pad Thai and Pad See Ew, as well as delicious icecream!
Also went for brunch as it was great.
It is a bit more pricey but lovely atmosphere and great location
front row in the beach and wide variety of food! it is quite nice. The ceasar salad was disappointing but the fried rice with pork and other Thai dishes were very good!
for shared rooms this is THE BEST option for budget travellers. Location is very good and rooms are of 4 people.
You have nearby cafes and restaurants as well as bike rentals and beaches, and it is the official accommodation of BB divers so you can book diving and snorkelling tours directly there.
It is VERY simple and not fancy, but it has everything you need
a little pricier alternative I met some backpackers going to, for private rooms. It is a bit far if you plan to walk to the beach or restaurants, though

Resorts
I would definitely recommend the resorts in Bang Bao Beach for incredible beach and sunsets
front row in the beach and wide variety of food! it is quite nice. The ceasar salad was disappointing but the fried rice with pork and other Thai dishes were very good!
I also visited Koh Mak shortly, 1 night, and I stayed at Lazy Day the Resort Koh Mak, to relax and disconnect before going back to the chaotic Bangkok!
Aiming to discover and connect with the countries I visit, through the creation of eternal memories and experiences.
