Getting to know Mauritius!!

Mauritius is an island paradise in the Indian Ocean, located off the east coast of Africa. You'll find a stunning landscape of soft sand beaches, mountains, tea plantations, waterfalls, forests and sparkling clear lagoons encircled by coral reefs.

Mauritius is one the most ethnically diverse countries in the world, creating fascinating, vibrant, and peaceful island community that offers a warm welcome to visitors. It is big enough for thrilling adventures and small enough to ensure everything on the island is within easy reach.

PORT LOUIS MARKET

Port Louis market is a shopping and street food hub in the heart of Port Louis, Mauritius' capital city. Also referred as Port Louis Central or Bazaar Port Louis', the market offers an authentic taste of local life in Mauritius. This is where the locals shop, stalls are piled high with juicy tropical fruits and vegetables and you'll hear the sound of stallholders echoing around the hall.

ODYSSEO OCEANARIUM

If you are looking for a day out with the kids, head to Odysseo Oceanarium in the Mauritian capital of Port Louis. The experienced team’s emphasis on conservation and education does not economise on the fun. Visitors can enjoy shark encounters, feed majestic stingrays, and experience virtual marine life with 3D projections and cutting-edge tech. With 300 different species and 3500 specimens, there’s plenty to entertain, inform and inspire.

7 COLOURED EARTH

The sand dunes have layers of red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow sand, revealing 600 million years of geology. The geopark is around 8.5 hectares and is home to geology education and conservation. There’s a coffee shop and restaurant here and it’s good to twin 7 Coloured Earth Geopark with Chamarel Waterfall, as you’ll see this on the drive up to the sand dunes. Chamarel Waterfall is the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius and you can photograph it from the viewpoint!

CAP MALHEUREUX CHURCH

The simple little church of Notre Dame Auxiliatrice is one of the most photographed sights on the island - its bright red roof pops against the background of the blue sky, turquoise waters and dramatic headland of Le Coin de Mire.

You're welcome to pop into the church, either to join mass or take a peek at the holy water basin made from a giant clam shell.
