Ubud - Eat, Stay, Love

Ubud - Eat, Stay, Love

On our recent travels in Bali we spent almost a month living in Ubud. šŸŒø Here are our recommendations for places to eat (17 locations) and stay at (4 locations). These are all places we tried ourselves and the information provided is from our own experience. We have included some extra tips that you might not find online and they will make your time in Ubud extra special. All the food locations are 4*+ rated on Google and all the hotels are 8.5+ rated on Booking.com - this guide will save you time looking for great places to eat and stay at. We did the work so you can just eat, stay and enjoy the paradise that is Bali! Almost all the locations are in the very centre of Ubud, making them perfect for people who don't drive and/or want to save money on taxis.

Healthy Warung
@OurEnchantedJourney
Nice little restaurant with great prices. We ate there many times. Try to get one of the two tables facing the street (unless it's raining because the rain does come in). One of our favourite meals was the avocado chicken curry - so yummy! For a drink, why not try the apple kunyit juice? It's tasty and healthy, just make sure to ask for no sugar. Bonus tip: for dessert, check out Ubud Raw Chocolate which is located right opposite (see location below for more info)

Ubud Raw Chocolate & Cacao Shop (Downtown Ubud)
@OurEnchantedJourney
Delicious chocolate of the best quality - organic cacao beans grown in Bali, all products are vegan, gluten free, GMO free, with no refined sugar, no preservatives, no chemicals or additives. They have two locations, one right opposite the Healthy Warung and Lokal Warung in the centre and one a bit further out. Try their tasting menu (one set is enough for two people to share) to see which of the flavours is your favourite - you can then buy bigger bars of it. They also have a few beverages - we tried the raw cacao shot which is served cold - it had a very intense flavour. Note: because of the ingredients in this high quality chocolate, it has to be kept in the fridge, so make sure you have one in the room and buy the chocolates just before heading to your accommodation.

Sawobali
@OurEnchantedJourney
All-you-can-eat vegan and gluten free buffet for an unbelievable price (50,000 IDR, as of June 2023). Walk in, find a staff member and pay (you have to pay upfront) and then eat all you can in one hour. Just remember, there are desserts included in the price too, so make sure you have time to eat a few! They also sell cakes - have a look at their social media pages to see the flavours. šŸ°

Run's Warung
@OurEnchantedJourney
We only went to this warung because it was a few steps down the street from our accommodation, the Krisna House (see in recommended stays), but that's how you sometimes discover hidden gems! This is a very local restaurant, with tasty meals cooked with a lot of care. Fantastic value for money. Their curries are particularly tasty and often raved about in the reviews.

Radiantly Alive
@OurEnchantedJourney
Radiantly Alive is actually a yoga studio. In fact, it's one of the most popular ones in Ubud, because they have many yoga classes as well as other workshops - have a look at their website to see what's on. There is a bright, modern cafƩ at the front of the building where you can grab a coffee during a break in your workshop or after your yoga class. Or just pop over to do some work, it's also an excellent coworking space. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends, writing postcards from your holiday or journalling. The menu offers a variety of healthy drinks with a selection of milks. We would recommend their high quality matcha. Just behind the cafe is a yoga shop that you can check out if you need any new yoga gear! Bonus tip: walk a few doors up the street from Radiantly Alive to get some delicious chocolate at Tree of Chocolate by Adriana (see location below for more info)

Tree of Chocolate by Adriana
@OurEnchantedJourney
Chocolate heaven. They use the best quality of organic, raw and vegan chocolate. You can buy a delicious bar or pralines over a counter, but they also offer packaged chocolate and other souvenirs such as spreads and cosmetics (yes, they are chocolate scented, you have to go and smell them!). You can buy brownies, pralines etc. as take away or to eat there, there is a small seating area outside and inside. Staff are very knowledgeable and happy to share information/give you samples. We tried a couple of pralines, a brownie, few spreads and a 100% chocolate bar - all were delicious. Note: because of the ingredients in this high quality chocolate, it has to be kept in the fridge so make sure you have one in the room and buy the chocolates just before heading to your accommodation. Bonus tip: walk a few doors down the street from Tree of Chocolate by Adriana to get a healthy drink at the Radiantly Alive cafƩ or check out the yoga shop. You can also see their schedule of yoga classes and other workshops (see location above for more info).

In Da Compound Warung
@OurEnchantedJourney
Bunnies! Do we have to say more? This restaurant is quite hidden - you have to follow the path through the compound (the hotel) but it might be one of the best things about your experience as there are bunnies running around the area! šŸ‡ The place is quite small so consider making a reservation. Prices are slightly higher than in more local warungs, however, the standards are also a bit higher, in terms of cleanness, decor, food presentation, staff behaviour etc. Overall, it's a great value for money.
