🇵🇹 Porto, Portugal Masterlist

Porto is a vibrant little city, small enough to walk every corner but big enough to boast centuries of history and architecture. Known as the hometown of Port, it’s also a destination for azulejos (the classic hand painted tiles), street art, and excellent food. This guide is best for first time visitors who want to spend their time exploring the city for a few days! On this guide, you’ll get: - the major sights with notes on what you’re seeing and if they need advanced booking - an interactive map to help navigate you to each spot - recommendations on typical dishes to order - 13 things to see and whether you should pay to enter or not - 8 places to eat at varying price points, 5 port wineries, 5 bars, 5 cafes/breakfast spots

Whether you’re interested in hunting for gorgeous tiled buildings or the perfect bite, I’ve got you!

You can get a good overview of Porto in two days, or use the city as your home base to explore northern Portugal.

A few things to know about Porto:

▪️ It’s small but very hilly! So plan to walk. You can also catch Ubers and tuktuks around, but easiest to walk.

▪️If you have more time, I recommend a day trip - or better, an overnight - in the Duoro Valley. It’s a great wine region of Portugal and very beautiful.

▪️ Eat as many pastéis de nata as possible! While you can find bakeries that only make these, they’re amazing almost anywhere you try them as long as they’re freshly made. Top with cinnamon - there’s always a shaker right by the cash register!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
