Cozumel, Everthing you need to know

Cozumel, Everthing you need to know

Melany Cervantes Rua
Everybody knows that Cozumel is the perfect place in the world to go diving, but what else it can offer? This island was my home for 7 weeks, so I can help you to know it from other perspective. You are going to find here what to do, where to eat and how to get there.

1. How to get there?

Cozumel has its own international airport so if you are flying from the USA it's easy to go directly to the island.

The other international airtport to arrive is in Cancun; once you arrived in Cancun's airport, you are going to take a bus to Playa del Carmen, it takes like 50 minutes, maybe less, from the bus station you are going to walk 5 to 10 minutos straigh for the Fifth Avenue (easy to recognize, is where everything happens), until you see Los fundadores Park, then you're going to look for Ultramar Ferry or Winjet, there's no diference, just ask for the one who sails faster.

You can also buy the tickets online, if you know exactly the hour you are gooing.

Note: No Uber ⚠️

-The island is very small, you can move on a bike or a motorcycle, there are rentals everywhere.

-If you don't want to rent anything the taxis are a very good option or bus if you are going to a very specific part of the island.

2. Where to stay?

Cozumel is full of all inclusive hotels, but here are 3 options if you want to know better the island than just stay at hotel.

Casa Isabella Cozumel
@melanycervantesrua
One of the best prices, is not exactly in front of the beach but is very close to the principal park and a lot of restaurants.

3. Where to eat?

Cozumel is an island that is not the cheapest and that you can noticed on the restaurants prices, but if you look good (you don't have to because I already did) you can find restaurants for every budget.

✨My favs ✨

El Coctelito
@melanycervantesrua
This one was my absolute favorite, you can have everything here. ❗️Ask always for the "Las de la 20" menu❗️ In 2023 there was everything for $39 MXN. Try the aguachile tostada and the poc-chuc (traditioanl recipe of Yucatan) sope. And of course take tequila shots. ⚠️ Just cash if you ask for that menu.

Taqueria El Pique

One of the cheapest taqueria and my fav 🌮 on the island. Try Bistec con queso and Arrachera, just perfect. 😋

Sucré Salé

French bakery, they have really good breakfast combos, good coffe ☕️ and good prices. They have sandwiches for lunch sometimes if you want something light (good option).

What to do?

Go dive 🌊🪼🐟

- I know I said that Cozumel has a lot to offer besides diving but you have to try it at least once if you go to the island.

Yep, that's me, in my first dive!!!! 🛟🥽

There is a lot of places that offer lessons, you can take the whole course or just a one time dive.

I took the one time dive, the instructor explain everything before you go on the boat and then you go for your first dive to learn how to breath, how to free the pression on your ears and how to not float, once you learn that's when the fun start!!!

Go to "Clavados"

Mirador Puerto de Abrigo
@melanycervantesrua
This is a very local place, you go with something to drink or eat and chill. My favorite spot on the island.

It's call Mirador puerto de abrigo, but for the locals it is Clavados, in english it means like a plunge, because you literally go there to jump from a cliff.

It is 3-4 meters deep and you can see some fish and corals at the bottom.

It feels like you are in a pool but a 100 times better.

This is me and my friends jumping and just chilling in the caribbean 🌊🩵

San Gervasio (Mayan Ruins) 🗿🌳🪨

San Gervasio
@melanycervantesrua
Here is Ixchel's Sanctuary, she was the goddess of fertility, weaving and medicine. So if you want to get pregnant or improve your health go with good intentions and pray about it.

You can walk all around the place and see a lot of birds and different animals. 🐢🦎🐸

Punta Sur

This is a park at the southest part of the island, the wind is incredible and the view is worth the way there.

Punta Sur Eco Beach Park
@melanycervantesrua
Here the swamp water meets the sea and you can also see crocodiles, it is very peaceful and pretty, Go up to the lighthouse and the view is just perfect.

This is the view from the lighthouse. 🌅

El Cielito

I went with an excursion and we were at three different places, 1. colombia reef, here we snorkelled, the depth of the sea here was more than 10m, the we went to "El Cielo" where all the starfishes are, you snorkel here too and it is between 3-5 meters deep, the last one is El cielito beach, you can see Stingray and swim with them.

⚠️They only let you put sunscreen at the beginning to protect the corals. Use a swimsuit that cover as much as yoy can.⚠️

El Cielo Cozumel
@melanycervantesrua
It is full of starfish, that's why it's call "El Cielo", it means sky.
