When you think of Rome, beer is not the first, second or third beverage you think of. Wine, coffee, spritz may take the main stage but the beer culture in Rome is thriving!
Breweries, pubs, and beer bars may be hard to find unless you have a local guide like me to lead you there. Check out what I wrote for Italy Segreta!
These are some of my favorite spots for craft beer, good food (aside from the Roman classics), and unique atmospheres to will show you a whole other side of the Eternal City!
Don't get me wrong, there is always beer available at the bars or the corner stores around the city. But craft beer is a small way you can support local business and budding entrepreneurs who are are changing the food system! Beer is food, too!
Beer bars, pubs and holes in the wall!
Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà
@tanaschwarz
One of the most historic beer bars in Europe. They always have a rotating tap list of artisan beers made in Italy, Germany and elsewhere! Be respectful as this is a very popular establishment and tables outside are reserved for locals only!

L'Elementare - Trastevere
@tanaschwarz
Pizza and beer need I say more? This pizzeria is host to another great tap list, and has a large bar inside where guests can sit down and eat a full meal (perfect for solo travelers). A hidden secret: you can order pizza and supplí from L'Elementare and drink outside on the sidewalk in front of Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fá (listed above) for the ultimate local experience.

Luppolo Station
@tanaschwarz
Luppolo meaning hop in Italian, is the best place to grab a burger, have a cold beer, and when in season, it's the place to watch a calcio match! A wide range of craft beers on tap and french fries on the menu!

Open Baladin
@tanaschwarz
The perfect beer bar and gastropub to refuel and refresh after a long walk through the center. Less than a mile away from Piazza Venezia, Campo de' Fiori and other main attractions, Open Baladin has a great list offering it's own beer and brews from surrounding places! You will often see many locals treating themselves to a burger, fries and beer on the weekends at the long communal tables or bar top. A great place for solo travelers who dislike sitting at a table by themselves. If they have a Schwarbier on draft, order it subito!

Be.Re. + Trapizzino
@tanaschwarz
The beer king as Be.Re stands for in Italian, is a stone's throw away from the Vatican Museums and a great place to stop for a cold beer and a trappizino on a summer day. Trappizino is a small pizza pocket like snack that is a steal for 5 euro a piece. Be.Re has a rotating tap list, and two taps for beers on pump!

Les Vignerons
@tanaschwarz
So technically a wine shop, but Antonio is has curated a store with some of the best natural wines and craft beers available in Europe. If you are staying at an Airbnb nearby, stop in and grab a few bottles of beer or wine to enjoy on the terrace of your apartment!

So Good!
@tanaschwarz
A hidden refuge on a hot Roman summer day, just a few minutes from Circo Massimo. The tap list is small but crafty. It is the perfect place to take a beat before walking around the Colosseum and Roman Forum!

Fischio
@tanaschwarz
The trendiest spot on the list, but a great place to sit outside (no indoor options) and enjoy a beer, canned spritz or natural wine and watch the city go by! Fischio is walking distance from the famous bakery and pizzeria started by Gabrielle Bonci! Follow them on Instagram to check if they have live music that night!
Details
Breweries
Birrifici (in Italian) are a great way to discover a lesser-known side of town! The atmosphere is fun, and lively and not to meantion the opposite of a tourist trap!
There is often live music and other events that happen during the weekends!
Jungle Juice Brewing & Taproom
@tanaschwarz
That's right, a brewery and taproom in Rome. The beer, food and the vibe is very similar to breweries in the states. While it is outside of the city, it a great way to experience the growing craft beer scene in Rome!

Hilltop Brewery
@tanaschwarz
If you have a car, take a drive out of the city to visit Hilltop Brewery! Brewing since 2014, these guys are making quality craft lagers and ales that are well worth the drive. If you don't have a car, don't worry! Hilltop beers always grace the taplists of other establishments mentioned in this guide! I always drink a pint of Gallagher Stout on pump when I see it on draft!

Rebel's Brewery & Tap Room Garden
@tanaschwarz
I admit I have not been to the Rebel's Brewery (yet!). They opened in 2016 and have been making fun, tasty craft beer ever since. They have a beer delivery system in place which helped quench the city during the pandemic, and a open air beer garden that is the perfect place to drink under the stars durning the warmer months!

I hope this guide helps you maneuver through some of the best beer spots in the city!
