Top 7 coffee shops in Tromsø - a local guide
As a student, there's been several long days with short deadlines for work to be done, which often required a good cup of coffee. Also, having "going to cafés" as one of my hobbies, venturing out for a caffeine boost became a bit of a daily ritual. Some of my tips might come across as "hyped" cafés, but they are hyped for a good reason. I'll also let you know which ones are laptop/work friendly. All of the mentioned cafés have been tested several times, so I can confidently vouch for their quality and atmosphere. Here comes my favourites, in a non-randomised order.
#1 Tøllefsenhjørnet
In the heart of Tromsø City Centre, you will find Tøllefsenhjørnet. This corner shop first opened it's doors in 1924 by Lauritz Tøllefsen, as a grocery store. The venue has since seen a few changes. But Lauritz' great-grandchild, Ida, decided to re-open "Tøllefsenhjørnet" in 2022 as a café for quality coffee, homemade cakes, natural wine and local beer.
They serve coffee from award-winning Tim Wendelboe, and honestly some of the best pour-overs I've ever had in my life. If you're a bit of a coffee nerd, like me, then I recommend ordering two pour-overs (just ask for their recommendations). This way, you can compare the taste notes from their epic range. Also, I highly recommend their homemade cakes - the lemon slice is a personal favourite!
In addition to serving top tier coffee, they also have a quality range of natural wines. Anders, a natural wine legend (in my opinion), is in charge of the wine selection. You can be confident to be served some good grape juice, as long as it's anything picked by him.
When it comes to studying, the café is quite small AND popular. So I would suggest bringing your laptop elsewhere.
