Introduction

You ABSOLUTELY won’t regret a single second of visiting this immensely beautiful and vast West African country, and not only is it incredibly safe to travel in, but it is also so different to many other places on our planet. We’ve put together our whole itinerary from start to finish, along with some handy tips along the way. We hope that you will find this guide helpful and that your trip to Namibia is one that you will remember for generations to come. The memories you make here will be the ones you tell your grandchildren around the campfire one day! Let’s turn your long-term desert dreams into a reality!

Day 1

Upington - Hobas 381km/4H17Min

We left Upington at 6:00am and made our way to the Nakop Border post. It’s about a 1H30Min easy drive to get there and because the border is open 24H a day, there doesn’t seem to be too much congestion with getting through. Once we were through the border, we headed out on the B3 towards Grunau where we filled up with fuel, bought a Namibian SIM Card and then headed off on the C12 towards Canyon Roadhouse. We decided to camp for the night, although you can book their other accommodation options too. A quick walk up the hill at the back of the establishment for a sundowner is an absolute ‘must’, and if you’re a keen photographer, head off with your camera to capture the old cars in the late afternoon sunlight as well as in the evenings when a multitude of stars become the backdrop for your project. We stayed at Gondwana Canyon Roadhouse; one of the best-known spots for your first night in Southern Namibia! Their collection of old cars is enough of a reason to go and see this great place, not to mention the great food at their quirky restaurant!

Take a walk up the hill behind the establishment for afternoon sundowners and DEFINITELY take some snapshots of all the old cars that they have!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
We’re two grown adults who quite frankly refuse to grow up! Our nicknames have always been Peter Pan & Tinks and very fittingly so. We currently explore on a shoestring budget as we still have full-time jobs with teens, but we have an incredible urge to travel the world for a living someday when all 3 kids are out of the house! So far, we have started our great adventures when and wherever we can from short overnight road trips to great adventures.
