About this trip
The Isle of Skye in northwest Scotland is in the top 10% of wildest places in the United Kingdom [1,2]. The Skye Trail is an unofficial thru-hike traversing the island north-south. The trail is not marked, and in some places basically non-existent. The trail is best done with wild camping, which is legal in Scotland, but can also be done by staying indoors. The weather can be quite unpredictable and rain is common, so pack proper clothing.
The route is split up into 7 stages, or 7 days. If you want to shorten the route, skip stage 4 or the coastal hills of stage 3 (from Old man of Storr to Portree).
Below you find an itinerary for all 7 stages with options for camping and indoor overnights. Below that is all you need to know about the Geography, Climate, Trails, Getting There and Accomodation, Services and Camping.
