🇵🇹Must try fooood in Porto
Porto, the charming jewel of Portugal. The land of winding streets, delectable vino, and mouthwatering delicacies that will leave you drooling for days. A true triple threat in the world of travel.
Get ready to indulge in a culinary adventure, my dear readers! In this article, I will be your guide to the must-try food and dishes in Porto.
Let's dive straight into the deliciousness - I’ll be precise.
Drumroll please, for the top 5 victors of this culinary battle.
1- Pastel de nata
Ah, the humble 'pastel de nata', a delicacy straight from the Portuguese gods themselves. Don't be fooled by its simple appearance, this traditional delicacy is a flavor bomb waiting to explode in your mouth. Trust me, it's worth the trip just for a taste.Â
Pair your morning coffee with pastel de nata. But let's be real, the real magic happens when you sip on some wine after indulging in a delish lunch- it's a match made in foodie heaven. (don't restrict yourself to just one pastel de nata on your journey. I indulged in one every single day with zero remorse and zero concern for my waistline. Trust me, the hills of Porto will give you a killer cardio workout.)
2-Francesinha
The infamous Francesinha. A Portuguese sandwich that defies all sandwich definitions. Too iconic to be labeled as just a mere sandwich. And let me tell you, it was truly a masterpiece. Crafted with layers of crispy bread and piled high with hot meats (sorry vegans, this one's not for you:/ Porto, it's like the land of pork and meat, where every dish is just a different variation of piggy goodness). But wait, there's more. Melted cheese in between layers, and topped off with a sauce so divine, named the 'molho de francesinha'. It's a juicy, saucy, meaty delight ...and did I mention it comes with a side of fries? But beware, it's a heavy dish. So unless you want to risk falling into a food coma, stick to just the Francesinha. It's extremely worth it.
3-Bolinhos de Bacalhau
Bolinhos de Bacalhau, or like codfish in a croquette form. It's like the fancy Portuguese version of a mozzarella stick, but with a rich and salty twist. Bacalhau is cooked and served in lots of ways but the deep fried was my fav one, trust me, it's the only way to truly experience Bacalhau - unless you're into raw fish, then by all means, go for the sushi.
4-Caldo Verde
The beloved soup of Portuguese cuisine. A delectable blend of finely shredded couve-galega (cabbage), spuds, olive oil, and a touch of sass from onion and garlic. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth, with a side of black pepper and salt for that extra zing.Â
5-Bifana
Saving the best for last, I couldn't resist the queen of Porto - Bifana. This porky delicacy is a source of pride for the Portugese, and rightfully so. Paired with a cold beer, it's the ultimate tribute to this sandwich sensation. Appearances can be deceiving, but don't be fooled, it will leave you begging for more.
Personally, I would choose Francesinha over Bifana. ^-^
