Athens a Mini Guide
Plan For Me Dani
Available for hire
This is a guide for Athens and Alimos Greece. If you are not familiar with Alimos (I wasn't either), it is a seaside town on the coast and is very close to Athens. It makes for a great city break from the heat of Athens. If you are heading to the Greek Islands for the summer it's very likely you'll pass through Athens. There is a wealth of things to do here. We've been a few times now and I still have things on my list that I'd like to see and do in future trips.
This guide will cover all of the things that I have personally done, seen, and eaten in Athens. *Including a mini street food our that we personally created and did! It will also cover things I have researched that sound amazing and that I wish to do on future trips.
Why Athens?
Personally I find Athens to be an incredible city. Not everyone wants to spend time in Athens, but we really enjoyed Athens and found it had a lot to offer. There are lots of great things to do and see here and so much history. We have visited twice so this guide for Athens will include quite a bit. You can pick and choose what you would find most enjoyable for a day or two here at the beginning and possibly also the end of your trip.
I am going to divide this Athens portion into 2 sections. The first will be for more of the heart of Athens and first timers or people who love all of the main and major things in the city. We also created our own mini street food tour here and that is included as well.
The second section is with a base in Alimos. This is likely for people who have already been to Athens and have seen all of the history and main sites. Or for people who just don't care and would rather beach and chill during their day or two in Athens.

ATHENS CITY CENTER
If you're coming to Greece I'm sure you've read about Athens city. I'm hoping you're planning to see the Acropolis as it is truly an incredible site. The streets of Athens are also beautiful and special in their own way. The street food scene is excellent and there are so many bars and restaurants with views of the Acropolis and the hills around Athens. I don't think you should skip spending at least one day here. Below are some things we enjoyed during our time here.
Where We Stayed
The Duke Boutique Suites

Though it may not look like much this was a really nice hotel. We stayed in a suite with our friends that had two bedrooms. It was very nice, very clean, and very large. It had a rooftop pool which is a blessing in Athens and it was in a neighborhood that was very walkable to lots of things we wanted to do and see.

Sofitel Athens Airport
@planformedani
This is a great option if you are flying late or early. The hotel was really nice and clean and comfortable. We stayed here on a layover between Athens and Milos. You could also stay here if you land late, or plan to head out early and don't want the drama of getting to and from the airport from the center.
Although the train to the Athens airport was honestly a breeze and super clean!

Things to Do/Eat/See
Acropolis
@planformedani
I think this one goes without saying. If you're going to Athens this is a must see. There is a museum and the site itself is incredible. Being a part of the history of Athens is a must if you are here. Even if you stay in Alimos you can take a quick train, taxi, uber etc into the city to check out this epic site.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Plan For Me Dani

My name is Danielle and I have been planning trips for the past 10 years.
One thing special and unique about my guides is that I am not producing guides that I didn't currently use myself. The places in my guides are places I have been, the itineraries are itineraries that I have personally followed. Everything is real and I have vetted myself.
My travel planning story started with a honeymoon to Italy and since then it has grown each and every year. I love all kinds of travel! It's hard to fine a niche because I fit into so many categories. I love nature, hiking, and being outdoors. I love beaches and sunsets and sipping wine and cocktails in pretty places. I love learning about people and cultures and history. I love street art and busy cities and I also love small towns and quieter places. I will sleep in a hostel and I enjoy a beautiful hotel. I love South and Central America and I am obsessed with Europe. I've been to Asia twice and hope to get back in the next few years. I love to eat and one thing you'll always get from me are true and great reviews of places that I've personally eaten! I have just returned from Albania and I am working on guides from that trip!
My full time job is as a School Leader of Social and Emotional Learning in Philadelphia. All my travel is done on school breaks and in the summer. I have still managed to visit over 36 countries and countless cities along the way. Being a teacher my whole life is about planning and I do believe I am exceptional at it. I work VERY hard to plan incredible trips and now you can hopefully benefit from that as well!
