Wes Anderson vibes in Skanör & Falsterbo, Sweden
Welcome!
Plan your day trip
Skanör and Falsterbo, located about 20 kilometers south of Malmö, make for a perfect day trip destination.
In my opinion, the best ways to reach there are by car (takes about 30 minutes) or by taking a bus (takes about an hour). Feel free to reach out for transportation advice!
The good news is that nothing in this itinerary needs to be booked in advance; however, make sure the following places are open when you wish to visit.
I would say that Skanör and Falsterbo are very nice places to visit all year long, but keep in mind they are seaside towns and are definitely less active during winter. Depending on the season and weather, you might want to bring your swimsuit or your wind jacket!
Ready now? Let's go!
Step 1: Find the colourful beach cabins
You can start by exploring the marina, which is adorned with adorable red wooden cabins—typical of Sweden!
Now, let's explore the charming wooden houses of all colors – a must-see in Skanör, especially if you appreciate Wes Anderson aesthetics.
These cabins are scattered across two different beaches:
- The first set is visible from the main road before reaching the marina, and is highlighted on Google Maps. However, in my opinion, it's not the ideal location to visit as these houses are not in good shape.
Step 2: time to snack!
I always like to recommend a few places to eat or have a drink, as it's almost a mandatory step during a day trip.
Here are my two favorites in the area:
Badhytten, for its fancy restaurant and sunset lounge:
Badhytten is an excellent choice for both lunch and dinner with a view of the sea. You can also enjoy a snack or cocktail on the terrace or directly on the beach.
Lindas Fingermat, for Latin American specialties crafted with Scanian ingredients and a lot of love
Plus, they sell excellent pastries and a tempting selection of ice cream!
Step 3: time to digest around some art
Now I am taking you to Falsterbo, the neighboring town, for an artsy break in a very unique environment.
Falsterbo Photo Art Museum
This museum is like no other: it is located in a pine forest, a few meters from the beach, and usually showcases impressive and fun exhibitions! We have seen fun exhibition themes like "Nude and famous" or "Dressed for success." Fashion somehow looks like a recurring theme there.
The permanent exhibition is composed of 550 original photographs from very famous artists such as Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Peter Lindbergh... It feels quite magical to discover these masterpieces in such an interesting place (both for its architecture and its location).
The entrance price is around 200SEK (20€), and is worth it for art lovers.
I would suggest ending this trip by treating yourself to a drink or snack at Bistro Perspektiv (a restaurant + café) located inside the museum. It's a chance to take a break in a beautiful room overlooking the pine forest. The late afternoon light usually gives it a nostalgic feel.
Feel free to wander around on the beach as well, taking in some fresh air before leaving the area.
That's (hopefully) a happy ending!
I hope you enjoyed following my steps in this unique part of Sweden, collecting nice memories and lovely pictures along the way.
