Jaco Beach
Jaco is a beautiful tourist town surrounded with raw nature and eager locals. As the tides rise and fall, so do the stones along the beach. I had several long morning and evening strolls along the beach with ease during low tide, and one hellish afternoon attempting to walk back barefoot amongst all the pebbles dragged up during high tide.
Tip: stay out of the brutal afternoon sun and if you want to walk the beach during high tide consider wearing beach shoes.
Don’t be surprised if you get cat-called to join a local surfer school for a lesson, there are plenty within the stretch of the beach. Average price late April of 2023 was approximately $45pp which you can of course shop around, but is a reasonable price overall.
Tip: Be weary of walking the beach and streets alone at night, stick with a group, or even better, Ubers are relatively cheap to get around the area, just a couple of dollars for a piece of mind.
Everything is expensive due to the amount of tourists that flock to Jaco. Be prepared to dish out your dollars, or better yet, find a spot where you can cook some of your own meals in house.
Tip: head away from the downtown strip near the beach to find smaller shops and restaurants where you can get more bang for your buck.
There are also plenty of night events, bars and clubs in Jaco. Most don’t start to get going until at least 11pm if not later, so do not be surprised if places are bare of people if you show up early! Hop around until you find the spot and music that is right for you. Or better yet, find a local who will take you to the spots that are less known!
