Best time to visit
As a local there is two best seasons to visit, Winter (Dec, Jan and Feb) and Summer (June, July, Aug).
During, winter there could be a wonderful winter wonderland, snow up to your knees and the possibility to ice skate in Old Town. Also, there is a Christmas market during December, that looks magical with the snow. But be aware, the temperatures can go as low as -20 degrees Celsius.Â
During summer, the city is alive. Lots of outdoor festivals and lots of cafes have outside terraces open. The summer weather is mild between 20-27 degrees Celsius. Also in the summer, if you wish to venture outside Tallinn to the nature, the public transport will work only in the summer, other times of the year you would have to rent a car.Â
All the other months are shoulder seasons, and it can be muddy and quite gloomy, however, there are some weeks of beauty when the trees blossom or as the autumn leaves fall.Â
Getting around in the city
Tallinn is a smaller city and everything in the city center is within walking distance. If you are heading further down the bay or into the big Kadrioru park, take public transport, a tram or a bus. The bus tickets can be bought from the bus or at the R-kiosk. Also, Google Maps will tell you precisely, when the bus or tram comes or how to get there.
The other way is to use Bolt app. Bolt is an Estonian company that provides transport services, aka taxis, rental cars, scooters, bikes and even food delivery. Download Bolt app and you can easily pick up a Bolt scooter or order a taxi with a fixed price.Â
