Lantau Island (大嶼山) is the biggest of Hong Kong's 261 islands and is nearly twice the size of Hong Kong Island. The island offers far more than just the airport and Tung Chung town. It boasts some of the most stunning beaches and hiking trails in Hong Kong, set against breathtaking landscapes. Iconic attractions like the Big Buddha and charming neighborhoods such as Tai O, Mui Wo, and Discovery Bay add to its allure.

This expansive island is brimming with dining, shopping, and recreational activities. How do I get there?

🚇Lantau Island is just a 30-minute MTR ride (metro) from Central on Hong Kong Island. The Town of Tung Chung serves as a major hub for buses to Mui Wo, Tai O, Ngong Ping, Discovery Bay, and the beaches. Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Central to Mui Wo or Discovery Bay. The MTR ride from downtown Hong Kong to Tung Chung Station usually takes up to 40 minutes, depending on where you begin your journey.
