We are Rebekah and Vitor, a young Algarvian couple, born and raised. Since we started dating and traveling together two things are always in our minds.

We are not the type of people who likes to sit around. 

On our honeymoon we went to Riviera Maya in Mexico, and although we searched for the most beautiful places to visit and the best experiences, we got SCAMMED multiple times and paid more than the actual cost for trendy places. That’s the trick with touristic places, and the Algarve is no exception.That’s why we curated the best places in our hometown - the beautiful Algarve - and put them together on different itineraries.

Lagos is known for its stunning beaches, historic charm, and vibrant atmosphere, which captivates the hearts of all who visit. 

Lagos' history can be traced back to the Roman era when it was known as Lacóbriga, becoming part of the Moors in the 8th century and conquered by the Portuguese in the 13th century. It was under Portuguese rule that Lagos flourished, particularly during the Age of Discoveries in the 15th and 16th centuries, as ships set sail from its harbor to discover new lands and establish trade routes. The town's prominence and wealth grew during this period, attracting merchants, artisans, and scholars from across Europe.

Did you know that in 1755 a devastating earthquake, followed by a tsunami and subsequent fires, struck the city causing significant damage to Lagos and other nearby towns?

Today, Lagos is a vibrant tourist destination where visitors can explore the remnants of its rich history. The Old Town, with its ancient walls and charming streets, showcases architectural styles from different periods. Lagos' gastronomy reflects the flavors of the Algarve region, with an emphasis on seafood and traditional dishes.

Head to the beach – Estudantes / Meia Praia

- Boat tours to Ponta da Piedade’s caves usually flee from the harbor at the Marina or nearby. Take the departure and arrival location into consideration when booking the visit. Also, it’s difficult and sometimes impossible to visit the caves on high tide.

- Lagos is a bit windy, especially after lunch. Avoid going to Meia Praia during windy weather, because it doesn’t have rocks to protect the beach.

- Camilo, Dona Ana, and Estudantes beaches are assessable by foot through a lot of stairs, so they’re not recommended for people with reduced mobility. However, you can enjoy their beauty walking on the cliffs through the pedestrian walkway.

- Camilo Beach is a very small beach, so if it’s high tide you might not get space in the sand.

- The walkway Dona Ana – Camilo – Ponta da Piedade – Canavial is 4 km long. So, it’s perfect if you like outdoor activities. Dona Ana to Ponta da Piedade is 1,6 km.

- You can’t miss the sunset at Ponta da Piedade. Why not grab some snacks, maybe a bit of cheese and a bottle of wine, and do a picnic on the cliffs with the best view in town?

- In Lagos everything is within walking distance, so you don’t need a car to enjoy your vacations.

- On Saturday mornings, there is a local farmers’ market near the Bus station, called “Mercado do Levante”. If you like the smell of fresh veggies and fruit you can visit and see what the local producers are selling.

- On Avenida dos Descobrimentos, is the municipal Market, dated 1924. Saturday mornings are the busiest hours. There you can find local fresh fish, veggies, fruit, and other delicacies from Lagos. If you have time and you are a foodie, it is worth the visit to know more about the local culture.

- Check the Lagos Museum website to know what ticket is right for you. They have different fares for youth to elders so take that into account. They also sell packages with other museum places in Lagos. Pay attention that the Ponta da Bandeira fortress is currently closed.
