Sayulita is a perfect Mexican getaway for a few reasons. The first is that it's only an hour away by car from a major international airport in Puerto Vallarta. The rest span from amazing beaches to plenty of nature activities like surfing and whale watching and end with delicious Mexican food. A few key tips:

- CASH is king here. There are plenty of ATMs in town to get pesos but know most places won't take card!

- Most people speak English but it's good to learn a few key Spanish phrases for those who don't.

- During rainy season, the water at the main beach can be unsafe to swim in.

- Do NOT drink tap water! And be careful eating fruits and vegetables that may be washed in tap water.

- Many people have off-leash dogs roaming around town with them; if you're afraid of dogs you may be uncomfortable here. If you love dogs, you'll love making new friends!

- Beach vendors are relentless on the main beach. Go to another beach if you want quiet!
