Summer Northern Italy Getaway
Warm weather always makes me think of Italy! A breeze off the Mediterranean, the Tuscan sun beaming down, a chilly limoncello spritz - if you've never experienced an Italian summer, it needs to be on your bucket list.
For most Italy trips, people fly in and out of Rome. While Southern Italy is a treat in its own right, I'm obsessed with Northern Italy. From the Alps to classic cities to the bluest oceans, you get a full Italian experience here avoiding the chaos of Rome by flying in and out of Milan, where flights are often cheaper, too. This guide includes my tried-and-tested ten day itinerary exploring Milan, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Tuscany AND Lake Como without overextending yourself.
A few tips for Italy:
- It is an overwhelmingly safe destination, especially for solo travelers, but women may experience some catcalling and it's good to take normal precautions against pickpocketsĀ
- Weather in the summer is HOT, you'll want breezy clothes and sun protection. Note you need to cover shoulders if you want to visit a church.
- Many people in these areas speak very good English, but learning a few key Italian phrases is a nice gesture.
- The train is absolutely the best way to get around Italy!
