Argentina/Brazil PACKED 8-Day Itinerary
My Notes For This Trip
CASH - It's always good to carry some cash for emergencies. For Argentina, we used up $150. For Brazil, we only took out enough cash to tip our tour guide. Many places we visited accepted credit card. For Argentina, we didn't exchange money using the Blue Dollar rate since Visa, Mastercard, and Amex now offer favorable rates for foreign tourists. In Argentina, some restaurants only accept cash as tip, and the taxi drivers near Iguazu mainly take cash, so cash definitely came in handy
SAFETY - I would recommend being alert of your surroundings and avoid wearing flashy jewelry. Avoid walking in deserted streets at night and avoid walking alone. Buenos Aires and Puerto Iguazu felt pretty safe to me. After reading horror stories online about the safety in Rio, we opted to only spend a day there and just do a full day tour to limit time exploring on our own. Some areas did feel unsafe, but the Copacabana and Flamengo areas looked nicer
VACCINES - Make sure you are up-to-date on your vaccines. Check the CDC website for recommended vaccines. For this trip, I decided to get the Yellow Fever and Typhoid vaccines
TRAVEL ADAPTERS - Argentina has both Type C and I plugs. Brazil uses Type C and N plugs. We only brought a Type C adapter, which ended up being sufficient for the hotels we stayed at.
Where to Stay in Buenos Aires (For Days 1-4)
We stayed at the InterContinental for 3 nights then changed to the Hilton because InterContinental didn't have rooms for the last night
