Destin for Everyone: The Ultimate Multigenerational Family Guide to Florida’s Emerald Coast
When to go
Summer
The busiest time to visit, with lots of sunshine, warm water, and outdoor activities
June–August: Peak tourist season with large crowds, high prices, and lots of activities
Independence Day: A big celebration with fireworks, a parade, and a food truck festival
Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic Fishing Tournament: A prestigious fishing tournament
Emerald Coast Poker Run: A boating scavenger hunt
*One thing to note: June-November is hurricane season
Fall
A less crowded time with lower prices and pleasant weather:
Sunny skies and tropical drinks: Average temperatures in the 70s and 80s
Less crowded beaches: More room to enjoy the white sand
Less crowded waters: Perfect for swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, or kayaking
October
The Destin Fishing Rodeo takes place all month long, with cash prizes awarded for nearly every type of fish
*I went in October and loved it! One personal experience: it isn’t uncommon to see jellyfish during this season. We saw them on days that were very windy and wavy and you can’t see in the water clearly. If you do get stung (like I did), it will sting for about a half hour but then start going away.
Winter
A relaxing place to spend the holiday, with snow-white beaches and a variety of Christmas experiences
April and May
Comfortable temperatures in the mid-70s and mid-80s, and warm water
Late March through early May
The Rock the Docks Concert Series at Harborwalk Village, with a different band each weekend
Towards the end of May
The Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, with parades, costumed performers, food, and games
