Prague - Top 30 Cafes & Cocktail Bars
Remi Gourmel
When I was living in Prague I started a quest to find the best cafes and cocktail bars in Prague.
This guide is the summary of places that I still really enjoy after five years living in Prague.
You will find:
☕️21 cafes and coffee shops
🍸10 special cocktail bars (the last one will surprise you)
🕶️ Places where you can get breakfast, cocktails and great food throughout the day
🥰 A mix of cosy , laidback and upscale atmospheres for all budgets
🍃Delicious options for vegans and vegetarians
✍️Detailed explanations for every single place
Unlike what I often hear, there can be great customer service in Prague. Come with me on a journey where you feel welcome and attended by friendly staff. Most of the listed places speak English so do not worry about learning Czech.
I hope you enjoy it!

Cafés
Cafe Letka
@remgo
📍Tram Stop "Letenske Namesti" (Letna neighborhood)
I could say that it is the best brunch place in Prague but I would be biased because I lived next door for 2,5 years.
It is still my favorite brunch place in the city (when we could find a free table!).
The interior is quite unique and brings you back to the previous lives of the place: you can see an Art Nouveau mirror, industrial lamps and chandeliers hanging together from the ceiling, and large wooden tables on the checkered floor.
Instagram material for sure.
You go there for breakfast, brunch, a light lunch or even a cocktail later in the day.
Their brunch is to die for, with home-made bread and locally-sourced ingredients.
They also serve a great coffee from the Five Elephant roastery, get their daily cakes from an espresso bar nearby and their beer from a Czech brewery.
Located in the middle of Letna, it is a great place to start exploring the surroundings: you can visit the Technical Museum right in front of it or loose yourself in Letna park, just a few meters away.
Attention please: they do not take reservations, make sure you come early in the morning to find a free table.

Bistro 8
@remgo
📍Tram Stop "Strossmayerovo náměstí" (Holesovice neighborhood)
📍Metro Stop "Jiriho Z Podebrad" (Vinohrady neighborhood)
You go to Bistrot 8 for a healthy brunch or lunch, with vegan and gluten-free options, in a cosy place.
Out of the two locations I personally prefer the one in Holesovice because it is smaller and with a quieter atmosphere.
However, if you are around Vinohrady, their café there is also a very good choice, with an extensive menu that also contains vegan and gluten free options.
Bistrot 8 in Holesovice serves a daily menu with one starter and one dish. Today for example, it was tomato cream with pesto and fried cauliflower, new potatoes, tater tots.
They also serve a rich permanent menu during week days so you do not have to take a decision between having brunch or lunch.
Among the numerous options, there are caesar salad with grilled halloumi, eggs benedict, BLT sandwich, poached eggs in herbed yoghurt or hummus with falafel.
My all-time favorite from Bistro 8 is the quesadilla with beans and gouda, tomato salsa and sriracha mayo.
And because it is not enough choice, if you come in the weekend between 10 and 3, they serve a special brunch menu with 5 dishes.

Pilot Cafe
@remgo
📍Tram Stop "Letenske Namesti" (Letna Neighborhood)
The atmosphere at Pilot is cosy with wooden tables, chairs and sofas. It is perfect to enjoy their delicious brunch and homemade deserts.
According to my wife, this is the best English breakfast that she had in Prague.
Their coffee is quite good as well, they select beans from small Czech and foreign roasters.
Fun fact: the first time I visited Pilot, I thought it was written Pillow.
I guess I did not pay attention to all the signs on the wall (the helix, the clocks with the names of cities around the world or the big frame with a painted plane).
Attention please: they only take reservations by phone, one day in advance.

Můj šálek kávy
@remgo
📍Tram stop "Krizikova" (Karlin neighborhood)
It is thanks to cafés like "Muj Salek Kavy" (meaning "My Cup of Coffee") that Karlin is becoming an up-and-coming neighborhood in Prague.
Once inside you instantly feel like at home, in a cosy living room. You see a very few wooden tables around, many bookshelves and even a fireplace.
Personally, the thing I remember the most from the interior is the bricks of the back wall covered in blue and yellow paint, with "Muj Salk Kavy" and a coffee mug painted in white. I remember sitting right next to it the first time I had brunch there.
Coffee lovers cannot stop praising this café where you get a very good dripped, filtered or pressed coffee from the Czech "Doubleshot" roastery.
To go with your cup of coffee, they serve good breakfast and lunch with most ingredients being sourced from local farmers.
And if that's not enough, they also have a proper brunch menu in the weekend.
Personally, I love their English breakfast and creamy pancakes with cherry compote, chocolate crumble and farm curd.
Good to know: they serve sourdough bread from their own bakery but you can also ask for gluten-free bread.
Attention Please: due to the size of the place, getting a table without a reservation could almost be as a miracle.

Proti Proudu
@remgo
📍Tram Stop "Urxova" (Karlin neighborhood)
If you cannot find a table at "Muj Salek Kavy", I encourage you to try Proti Proudu (meaning "Against the Current") that is a block away and usually less crowded.
They define themselves as a modern bistro: you can be sure that they will always have quality food to serve, from breakfast to dinner. A lot of their dishes are actually inspired by French and Italian flavors.
My favorite dish was without a doubt the "huevos rancheros" (not really French nor Italian, I know).
Good to know: they also serve breakfast all day!
The atmosphere is relaxed and modern with an elegant choice of colors and elements. The interior feels minimalistic and brings a sense of inner-peace. You know you are in for good food in a southing place.
Whether you want to start your day with a filling breakfast, have lunch with colleagues, an after-work drink or a romantic dinner, I believe that you could have a great time at Proti Proudu.
Fun fact: I heard that you cannot find darker roast Italian-style coffee anywhere else in Karlin.

Cafefin
@remgo
📍Metro stop "Jiriho Z Podebrad" (Vinohrady neighborhood)
The intro of their Facebook page says it all: "a cozy & first Vietnamese café in Prague. Enthusiasm for specialty specialty coffee"
Cafefin is a unique café that blends European and Vietnamese cuisine, and serves a menu that you would not expect to see for brunch in Prague.
You can order traditional Vietnamese coffee, coconut matcha, sweet chao rice, banh mi sandwiches and many more dishes.
A lot of healthy options with a view on Jiriho Z Podebrad and its impressive church.
Beyond the delicious food, you will also feel in a cosy and comfortable atmosphere: brick walls, flowered patterns, hanging lights, small wooden tables, and even an old writing machine next to Vietnamese masks.
You might think that the combination of all these items does not make sense, but you will certainly feel in your own bubble as long as you do not leave the place.

Café Savoy
@remgo
📍Tram stop "Ujezd" (Mala Strana neighborhood)
Completely different vibe at Café Savoy: you have a date with History in a gorgeous First-Republic café.
This café has been around since 1893 and went through crazy times: it had to close during the 1st World War, was a recruiting office for the communist police, before being a smoky haunt during the Velvet revolution (1989).
Eating at Café Savoy means sitting under a Neo-Renaissance ceiling and beautiful chandeliers, next to large windows, in an Art Nouveau decor.
It has a spacious interior and is also well-known for serving gargantuan breakfasts and a Viennese-style menu.
Last but not least: its location between Kampa and Petrin Hill is ideal, making it a strategic café to rest and be wowed, before you continue your visit of Mala Strana.
Attention please: the place is often crowded, it is recommended to book a table online before you go.

I strongly believe that you live a trip three times: 1. when you plan and dream it 2. when you finally go through it and make your own experiences, and 3. afterwards, when you cannot stop thinking about it.
I love spending hours planning my trips weeks and months in advance, reading about things to do, comparing reviews and reading blogs.
