Hvar, Croatia | A Stunning Guide

A short ferry ride away from the mainland, this stunning island has much to offer. A favorite among young backpackers, but offering a place for foodies and wine-lovers too. Below, you will find a list of places to visit while in Hvar.

According to the locals I spoke with, the months of May-June and September-October are the best time to be here. If you wait too long and stay in July-August, you will be experiencing the blistering heat and crowds of Hvar, and if you go between November-February, many destination and attractions will be closed for off-season.

To get the most out of Hvar and surrounding areas, I would recommend a stay of at least 3 days. That will allow you to experience this island fully and slowly. 

On this island, walking, bicycles, and scooters are your best bet. But getting to and from the island, you have plenty of options.

- 👣 Walking: The cheapest, and often most rewarding, form of transportation out there! In many instances, this option takes no more than 10 minutes longer to reach a destination than it would be taking public transportation. It's easy to hit that 10,000-step goal here!

- 🚲 Bicycle / Scooter Rental: Perhaps you want to take in all the sights, but walking isn't the answer. There are a multitude of rental shops available, as well as booking directly through many hostels.

- 🚤 Water Taxi: If you want to hop between nearby islands, this is a great budget option. Depending on the location and time of year, it should be under 20€.

- 🚕 Taxi: One of the more expensive types of transportation, but still an option. Typically, Uber is used, although you can hail some down in the street as well. 

- 🛥️ Private Boat: For a customized, private experience, you can hire a private boat for fast and personal service. The price is the steepest of all options, but great for larger groups or intimate exploring.

- ⛴️ Ferry: Jardrolinija and Krilo Ferries are two of the most popular lines that connect Hvar to other coastal towns. The price depends on the distance and time of year.

- 🚍 Bus: The island's bus service will connect you from Hvar Town to other towns and beaches on the island. One-way tickets are under 10€, depending on the time of year.
