FREE Puerto Vallarta 7-day Itinerary

FREE Puerto Vallarta 7-day Itinerary

We visited Puerto Vallarta at the beginning of August 2023, which is considered one of the rainiest months (Sept is also rainy), oops! We still had a good time and were able to do all the excursions we had planned since the rain/thunderstorms usually occurred late afternoon or overnight. Apparently, the best time to visit is between April and June for good weather and affordable prices For our 1 week trip to Puerto Vallarta, we spent the first half at an all-inclusive resort and the second half in an Airbnb so we could explore the local cuisine! I would definitely recommend doing both!

Day 1-4: All-Inclusive Resort

For the first half of our trip, we stayed at the Secrets Vallarta all-inclusive and did half-day excursions. If you're at an all-inclusive, I would recommend half day excursions, so that you can eat all the meals at the resort.

Where to Stay

Secrets Vallarta Bay Puerto Vallarta
@jenuine_reviews
Excellent all-inclusive hotel! The property was beautiful, and we enjoyed the food, drinks, pool, beach access, and activities (they had kayaking, paddle boarding, water aerobics, bingo, etc!). During our stay, there weren't many evening shows (I think they were mostly canceled because of the rain) Secrets is an adults-only hotel, and you also have access to the nearby Dreams hotel. 4 nights here was perfect to check out all the restaurants in both Secrets and Dreams.

Excursions We Did

1) Sea Lion Discovery + Aquaventures Water Park

I found the cheapest price booking directly on their website. Upon arrival, we had to wait 30 minutes to check in for the sea lion encounter, so make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the encounter. This experience was so unique! You can pet the sea lion and get kisses from the sea lion! Totally worth it! The photos were expensive though. With these tickets, you get access to the waterpark. The water park is pretty small with a few slides and a lazy pool.

2) Jorullo Bridge ATV Tour

I found the cheapest price on Puertovallartatours.net, but there's a 5% processing fee for cancellations. Viator offers a full refund if canceled 24 hours in advance, so this might be preferred if you want more flexibility. This ATV tour was amazing! The Jorullo bridge views were gorgeous. You see a ton of butterflies too! You can get a little wet/muddy, so don't wear nice clothes. Don't forget to bring bug spray.

Day 5: Check-in to Airbnb

MORNING

Eat breakfast/lunch at the resort and store luggage at the resort. Check-out time for Secrets is 12 PM

AFTERNOON EXCURSION: ZIPLINE

This tour was so fun! It includes 11 ziplines. The height and length of the ziplines were not too scary in my opinion. Our tour guides were fun and hilarious! Don't be afraid to go upside down, and don't forget bug spray!

After the zipline tour, we picked up our luggage from Secrets and checked into an Airbnb near Playa Los Muertos

El Dorado Restaurant
@jenuine_reviews
3.5/5 stars This restaurant has a beautiful ambiance next to the beach and a live band, so prices are steep. The meal started off with delicious bread with the most amazing butter! The butter tasted like movie theater butter. This is what else I tried: - Lobster and bone marrow tacos: disappointing as it didn't taste like lobster or bone marrow. It tasted like a beef taco. -Octopus: tender and tasty -Crab enchiladas: had some good crab pieces but maybe needed some more flavor.

Day 6

MORNING: HIDDEN BEACH

The main attraction is the Hidden Beach! It's very exclusive, as the number of visitors per day is limited. This beach is absolutely breath-taking. The snorkeling was pretty good - quite a bit of fish. They give you a light ham and cheese sandwich, so you can have lunch/explore the local food after the tour. Note: There is an additional cost (600 pesos for the hidden beach and boarding fee) that is paid the day of.

AFTERNOON: LUNCH OPTIONS

EVENING: ALMA CRUISE

This was one of my favorite excursions in Puerto Vallarta. It includes a sunset cruise, a buffet, and a show with Cirque du Soleil vibes. The cruise was enjoyable (especially with unlimited booze and the dance party on the way back). The buffet was delicious with a good amount of options (they had this super tender beef). The show was phenomenal, with very cool stunts

Day 7

MORNING: FOOD TOUR

This was another highlight! We tried so many delicious items, such as birra tacos, seafood stuffed jalapeno, carnitas tacos, ceviche, mamey popsicle, enchiladas with mole sauce, flan made from cream cheese, and some refreshing juices! See below for full list of tasting locations!

AFTERNOON: EXPLORE
