💁🏻‍♀️ <Azabudai Hills> Free Observation Deck

Japan Travel Basics
【TOKYO】Newly opened in Nov 2023, the Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower is now the tallest tower (325m | 1,066ft) in Japan. Surprisingly, it's observation deck on the 33rd floor is free (as of Jan 2024). It has the most stunning view of Tokyo Tower standing right next to it. No other observation deck comes so close to the iconic Tokyo Tower. But note that the observation deck is not always open!! so be sure to check its opening schedules (read below for the tips ☝️).

📍Address: 1-chōme-3 Azabudai, Minato City, Tokyo 106-0041

🚃 Nearest train stations:

・Kamiyacho station | Hibiya Line Exit 5 | 12 mins | 750m

・Roppongi Itchome station | Namboku Line Exit 2 | 13 mins | 850m

・Azabu Juban station | Oedo Line Exit 3 | 9 mins | 650m

⚠️ There's several tower buildings in the area, so it might be confusing. Look for the "Mori JP Tower".

⚠️ The elevator to the 33rd floor might not be easy to find.  It is NOT in the "Tower Plaza" building where the shops are, but the lobby next to it.  It looks like a private elevator for the office or residence.  It says "Hills House" at the entrance of the elevator.  The map distributed at the information desk is not very easy to decipher; it didn't have much info about the observation deck "Sky Lobby" (as of Jan 2024).

In this video, you can check where the elevator is...

□ Opening Date

The observation deck is usually open, but sometimes closed for private use.  The announcement is sometimes made just a few days prior.  So, make sure to check the website before you visit.  I went and it was closed on 12/6 😭 ... Latest information should be posted on "What's on" page below. If there's no information about closure, then it should be open to the public.

□ Opening Time

10:45 - 21:00

(there was a paper by the entrance noting that opening hours might change without notice 😓)

Tonkatsu Kawamura(Fried Pork Cutlet)

⏰ 11:00 - 22:00 (last order 21:30)

☎️ +81 (0)3-6432-0105

🪑 24 seats

💰 from ¥1,400 ($10usd) / set (amazing price 🥳 🙌)

You can try the high quality tender and juicy pork fried with light crispy coating; the authentic taste is rated highly by the locals; for beginners, try the "pork loin" price starting at ¥1,400 (about $10usd) for the set (with rice, miso soup, cabbage, pickles)(free one time refill for cabbage and rice) 🙌 ; for the advanced, there's "pork fillet" (and "menchi-katsu" which is not on the menu); lunch (about 11:30-12:30) and dinner (about 18:00-19:30) times might require some waiting, so best to go at off peak hours

Directions:

To go to Kawamura Tonkatsu restaurant, exit the observation Mori JP tower towards the garden (Hermes shop), find the entrance for Garden Plaza B (next to TeamLab Borderless) and walk / go down in the direction of Kamiyacho subway station on the B1F.  It's a bit complicated (I got lost 😭)...

🙋🏻‍♀️ I'll continue to update the list, as I try more restaurants!!

Have fun in Tokyo🗼✨
