Underrated State Parks

Underrated State Parks

National Parks are famous for their sprawling landscapes, large scale tourism infrastructure, and historic conservation efforts. There are so many amazing (and less crowded) State Parks to experience! I've rounded up some of my top picks from the West Coast and many are close to other amazing attractions off the beaten path.

Smith Rock State Park
@geo-conscious
About 27 miles (~40 minutes) North of Bend you'll be enchanted by the rocky high desert landscape of Smith Rock State Park. Check out winding canyons, wild rock formations, climbing/biking/fishing access, and picnic spots nestled in one of Oregons 7 Wonders. Opt for an easy stroll on the River Trail, check out Monkey Face and the insane views from Misery Ridge Trail or set out on a longer loop - lots of possibilities! Don't forget to treat yourself to an ice cream cone at Juniper Junction aka Rockhard afterwards.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Greetings fellow Earth-dwellers! 🏜️West Coast kid at heart (lived in AZ & OR) 📚Studied abroad in B.C. Canada 📍Now I call the Southeast U.S. home 🌍My passion for sustainability shines through everything I do. I currently work for an outdoor retailer and I love sharing outdoorsy recommendations and breweries. I've been to over 20 National Parks and am exicted to create localized guides for them! Conscious travel doesn't have to include finding a spot off the grid, living out of a van, or only eating vegan food. I enjoy sharing local businesses, environmentally-focused travel tips, and authentic and respectful ways to spend time while you're away from home. Check out my city guides and trip recommendations for mix of eco-tourism and enriching plans anyone would enjoy!
