Introduction
Penida is the largest of the three islands (Nusa) close to the east coast of Bali. Be prepared to be mesmerized by an entire palette of blue in the waters surrounding Penida!
People living on Nusa Penida appreciate the island life but are also heavily dependent on tourism to sustain. Consequently, the pandemic has been a trying time with a lot of small businesses closing shop.
It is accessible via daily ferries that ply from the Sanur harbour from 8:00 am. Be mindful of the large number of fellow tourists that you will encounter as large crowds at the harbour. It is advisable to report at the harbour at 7:00 am.A multitude of ferries ply between Bali and Penida. Some of the renowned ones include Maruti, Wijaya Buyuk, The Angkal, Semabu, Sanjaya etc. Be sure to book a ticket for the ferry of your choosing beforehand to avoid the hassle.
We recommend making arrangements for transportation on the island beforehand as well. The roads are narrow and sometimes steep. A motorbike like NMax should suffice. Opting to rent a car with or without a driver will be heavy on the pocket and you’d be risking getting stuck in traffic.
The other two islands, Ceningan and Lembongan, are much less commercialized and hence rather unexplored.
