Bread in Japan…What?
Back in the day, wheat and barley didn’t exactly thrive in certain parts of Asia due to climate and soil conditions.
Thanks to the Portuguese missionaries and traders who arrived in Japan during Edo period, like early 17th century, bread was a whole new magic.
Today, baked goods is a staple in Japanese homes. From traditional Japanese pastry, melon-pan to Western-style bread such as baguettes and croissants.
📍 Jingumae
TOURNAGE
@veronicaflores
Owner of two Japanese ladies who have been best friends since high school and dreamt of opening up their very own bakery. An easy to miss humble bakery. Surprisingly delicious breads and pastries. Must try the mentaiko bagel (salmon roe- filled bagels with cheddar cheese).
My local neighborhood bakery & yes, you can mention my name, Veronica. I’m sure they will have a big smile and you will definitely make their day!

📍Hiroo
Truffle Bakery Hiroo
@veronicaflores
Each bite of their flaky, buttery pastry wrapped around rich, velvety chocolate, you lose words and all of a sudden—it’s gone. The best pan au chocolat I have ever had. Having experience many bakeries in France, this is one beats them all.

📍Nakameguro
THE CITY BAKERY
@veronicaflores
Chain cafe/bakery but this specific location gives a NYC vibe. Located underneath Naka-Meguro Station, this is my go-to as they serve western-style breakfast (toast, eggs, bacon) early 7:30am which is unusual in Japan.
