Prague is not a very large city, and you can walk to most places. Therefore, it doesn't matter much which neighborhood you stay in in terms of distance. However, there are differences. For instance, the Old Town is perfect if you're visiting Prague for the first time, Vinohrady is ideal if you're traveling with children, Vršovice is great if you like to party, and the trendy Žižkov is perfect if you're visiting Prague on a budget.

Prague is divided into 22 districts, from Prague 1 to Prague 22. The higher the number, the further from the center. If you're going on a city trip to Prague, it’s wise to choose a low number and stay in the center, although accommodations in the higher-numbered districts are generally cheaper.

Staying in Prague: Old Town (Staré Mesto)

If you're visiting Prague for the first time, I recommend staying in Staré Mesto, the Old Town. Wander through the atmospheric backstreets and admire the baroque and gothic buildings. The old town square is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.

Most of Prague's attractions are within walking distance, and if not, there's always a tram or metro. Because there are quite a few tourists in this part of the city, you'll find plenty of bars and restaurants.

Staré Mesto is located on the eastern bank of the Vltava, the 430 km long river that flows through Prague. To get from east to west, you walk across the famous Charles Bridge.

Staying in Prague: Malá Strana

If you cross the Charles Bridge from Staré Mesto, you'll enter the picturesque neighborhood of Malá Strana, with colorful and beautiful buildings in narrow, winding streets that almost seem like a maze. Here you'll find the narrowest street in Prague, which you can pass by before you know it. Not that you'll miss much, but still.

Malá Strana is a perfect neighborhood to stay in if you want to spend less on your accommodation but still be centrally located.

In my opinion, these are the two best neighborhoods to stay in during your city trip to Prague.
