I prepared a 4 days itinerary that will make you fall in love with Lisbon and more.

🥧Belem cakes - are similar to pastel de nata, but seem to be a bit different in the texture of the custard. It is worth a stop at Pasties de Belem while in Belem.

🍷  Portugese wine - you can find it at any restaurant or terrace. You can stop for a wine break at Miradouro das Portas do Sol

Also, note that if you leave from Terminal 2, from the metro station, which is at Terminal 1, you will get a free shuttle bus for about 5-10 minutes.

From Lisbon airport, Humberto Delgado Airport, you can easily take the metro to get to the city center. The red line is connected to the airport and it has multiple connections with all the other lines.

Belem itinerary

I would personally recommend Rossio Plaza Hotel as I stayed there and it is a beautiful, comfortable and perfectly placed hotel.

🥧Pastel de Nata - You should definitely not miss this delicious custard tart originated in the 18th century at the Jerónimos Monastery. It was common for the monks to starch their clothes using egg whites, so they would bake the leftover yolks into various pastries and desserts. There are multiple locations that make them, the ones I recommend are:

🐟 Pastel de bacalhau (Croquetes with cod) - the cod (bacalhau in Portuguese) is a simbol for Portugal and it is an important part of the Portuguese diet. There are multiple restaurants from the chain Casa Portugesa do Pastel de Bacalhau where you can try them.

🍒Ginja at a Ginjinha - this is a local cherry liquor. You can find it in chocolate shots.

The first stop of the day will be the Sanctuary of the Christ King in Almada. Here you will get a taste of Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco at once. The place is impressive and very nice organized. The best way to get there would be by bus and a short walk from the bus station.

Belem is a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood of Lisbon. To get to Belem you should get the train from the train station Cais de Sodre. When you get there, from the train station you can walk beside the water (Tagus River) until you reach the first stop, Padrão dos Descobrimentos.

When getting back to the city, you can stop at the Timeout Market to have a bite and then continue the day with the next stop, the Pink Street.

🎶Fado show in Lisbon - you should definitely go to a Fado show while in Lisbon as it is a great experience. I personally recommend Cafe Luso  in Bairro Alto, the atmosphere here is fantastic. Make sure to reserve an evening for this and also to make a reservation at the restaurant as you might not find a place on the spot.

The first day can be spent in the city center, get to know the vibe of the city and the places.

Sintra is an amazing region that is mandatory to be visited while in Lisbon. For a day trip to Sintra, and evenrything you need to know about how to get there and how to get around, check this included guide:

Ride on the famous tram 28. You should try to do this early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Board the tram in Martim Moniz or Campo Ourique. There is a better chance of getting a seat at these stops. Purchase a ticket in advance from any metro station. You can purchase tickets directly on the tram for €4.10, but you need to pay in cash.

Ride the whole route to take in the scenery! Take some time in one of the mornings to try this experience.
