Scream & Shake Horror Bar
@themorbidtourist
This cafe by day and bar by night is a must-visit for any horror fan. With horror movie decor and kitsch-themed cocktails, it's definitely worth stopping in for a drink. We planned to visit for some monster milkshakes at lunchtime but were happily surprised to find a decent soundtrack of horror and pop-punk tunes playing during our evening visit, making it a fun spot for an alternative night out too. ๐Ÿ“Œ Top tip: there's also a small clothing/alt shop on the second floor that's worth checking out when you visit!

Frenchmanโ€™s Cove
@themorbidtourist
Once a Tobacco Warehouse, Frenchmanโ€™s Cove is now a lively food and drinks venue - with a resident haunting, of course ๐Ÿ‘ป Not only have staff reported feeling like someone - or something - watches them as they work, but the owner Billy has actually been able to identify who the spirit may be. Archived materials identify the ghost as Laura Schoons: a young woman who was originally from Scarborough. Other spirits (as in ghosts, not the drinks ๐Ÿ˜‰) include a lady and a child that play havoc with the pub's speaker system at night.

Raikes Hall
@themorbidtourist
Built as a family home in 1760, Raikes Hall has been a convent and even a public house over the years. It's now a bar and is said to be haunted by a spirit dubbed the Blue Nun. According to legend, the spirit is a nun who purposefully drowned herself in a nearby lake. One apparition is known as the Blue Nun, referring to a nun who purposefully drowned herself in a nearby lake. She has been seen roaming the property and is also responsible for strange noises, unexplained cold spots and things being moved around the pub.

The Hole In Wand Blackpool
@themorbidtourist
Just a little spooky, The Hole In Wand Blackpool is a fun Harry-Potter-themed crazy golf, with each hole re-creating different scenes from the franchise. Expect a competitive game in settings like a forest full of venomous snakes or an ancient castle ๐Ÿฐ ๐Ÿ“Œ Top tip: it's definitely worth upgrading to a premium ticket as for just ยฃ2 extra you get a magical phial of poison (alcohol) to mix into your potion ๐Ÿธ

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon
@themorbidtourist
Enjoy a 90-minute tour exploring Blackpool's dark past with this interactive show that mixes horror with comedy. The tour includes ten shows with 1000 years of history, including The Pendle Witches and Skippool Smugglers. ๐Ÿ“Œ Top tip: if you have time, I'd recommend continuing your historic tour by visiting Pendle, less than an hour away. Here you can learn more about the Pendle witch trials, England's most famous - and heartbreaking - witch trials.

The Old Coach House
@themorbidtourist
Apparently the oldest building in the South Shore area, this once vicarage and now bed and breakfast is haunted by a male figure wearing a cap and a black cloak. Whilst guests try to enjoy their meals, he just simply stares at them, doing nothing else. Now that's creepy. A female ghost called Shirley also haunts the dining room, but thankfully she just keeps watch, rather than staring at guests in a creepy manner. Haunted or not, however, I stayed in this adorable B&B last year and can recommend it.

Pasaje del Terror
@themorbidtourist
Pasaje del Terror has been in Blackpool for as long as I can remember - it's pretty iconic as scare attractions go. This unique, interactive horror show dares visitors to journey through a spine-chilling maze of scenes from famous horror movies. It's so scary - and without a doubt one of the best scare attractions I've ever been to. I was 33 years old before I was finally brave enough to enter - and it did not disappoint!

The Ghost Train
@themorbidtourist
Did you know that the classic ghost train at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is actually haunted? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘ป It's believed that the ride - the oldest ghost train in the world - is haunted by a ghost called Cloggy - a former ride operator who used to wear clogs. ๐Ÿ“Œ Top tip: the ride was even featured on an episode of Most Haunted back in 2004 - watch before (or after!) your ride.

St Annes Sand Dunes
@themorbidtourist
This area of beach with stunning sand dunes has a sad history. On Christmas Eve in 1919, the body of Kitty Breaks was found among the sand dunes. At 26 years old, Kitty had been shot three times by her lover. Both tourists and locals alike have claimed to see her sad spirit wandering the beach...

๐Ÿ“ŒFurther Tips, Tricks & Info ๐Ÿ‘‡

These recommendations can be visited over the space of a weekend or a few days. I have ordered each spot in order of distance, but I'll be publishing a guided itinerary soon too.

โŒ› Short on time? I would recommend booking The Blackpool Tower Dungeon or a Blackpool Ghost Walk.

๐ŸŽข If you do have time, make sure to enjoy a visit to the rest of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, plus Coral Island and Blackpool Tower. Blackpool is filled with fun and affordable non-spooky stuff to do too!

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Visiting as part of a longer trip? I already mentioned this above but I would absolutely recommend taking an hours drive to Pendle and spending a couple of days there too. There's so much history to discover about the Pendle witch trials there, plus a couple of witchy/alt shops.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey ๐Ÿ‘‹ My name is Louise and The Morbid Tourist is your ultimate guide to weird and wonderful places around the UK and beyond ๐Ÿ–ค Here you'll find guides and itineraries for dark tourism and spooky travel, including haunted places, historic buildings, spooky graveyards, folklore spots and more. If you're looking for a spooky adventure - I'm your gal. Here's why ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐ŸŒ I've lived in the UK my entire life - I know not only the best places to visit, but the darker, alternative and less-touristy places too ๐ŸชฆI'd rather visit a hauntingly beautiful graveyard away from the crowds than popular tourist attractions (although they can be fun too sometimes!) โœ๏ธ I do my research. I once spent an entire afternoon traipsing through a muddy farm to find a (tiny) historic carving in a brick wall. The spot signified where a butcher was hung for his grisly crimes - and was well worth the find ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Planning is my jam. From Google Spreadsheets overflowing with checklists of must-visit places to in-depth Notion templates about different locations - you can bet I've thought about every last detail of a trip ๐Ÿ‘ป I'm also honest. That pub claiming to be the most haunted in the UK (like every other pub)? It might not be the most haunted but it sure is fun to visit anyway ๐Ÿ–ค I'm passionate about morbid and spooky travel. The kind of travel that combines mystery, history, folklore and so much more. Whether you're a believer in the paranormal or not, the experience of visiting somewhere spooky is unlike no other Whatever you want to call it: dark tourism, legend tripping or just spooky travel, you can find everything you need know here. Plan a spooky adventure with me today โ˜ ๏ธ
