Harajuku: Tokyo’s Kawaii and Ometsando’s Modern Chic

Harajuku: Tokyo’s Kawaii and Ometsando’s Modern Chic

Escritor Explorer
The Kawaii district — with the latest youth fashion and food — makes you believe it may have come from space. The cuteness overload is enough for Professor X to create an army of Powerpuff Girls. If you want to know where Japan’s kawaii culture began, I say it started here. From spaceship saucer-shaped cotton candy to rainbow grilled cheese, you think it is part of a Care Bears’ food group pyramid and the poop ice cream (do not worry, it is not real poop). It is a given why I see it as another planet to visit. Nevertheless, I can not forget its divergent twin: Omotesando. While Harajuku is about the cute scene, Omotesando has a chic-style scene and coffee shops. Both night and day of the two, Omotesando is right on the line of Cat Street. Both Harajuku and Omotesando have what I enjoy the most: history, traditional culture, and food — especially the food. There are many places to visit and hidden spots (even if Omotesando is more on the luxury side). Let’s begin!

🌟Hot Point: 🌟

Best time to visit?

It does tend to get crowded, especially on the weekends. But it is less crowded in the morning and early afternoon during the week.

🚉Transportation:

Harajuku Station
@Escritorexplorer
This is the main station of Takeshita Street. There are several exits, and you may come out at one end of the street.

For most people in Tokyo, taking the train is a better way to get around a crowded city. Depending on where you are coming from in Tokyo, you can get to Harajuku by taking the Yamanote Line.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Escritor Explorer
💫Hello! My name is Nataly Zaragoza, also known as Escritor Explorer on Instagram. I have traveled for over six years and will continue to travel with my love of food 🌮and history.🏰The best way to travel, in my opinion, is to get off the big roads and go towards the small, narrow streets and get lost. That is how I found the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants! I have lived in Japan for over five years. I spent a year in Tokyo🗼as a student and four years in the mountain prefecture of Nagano🍜. So there will be more guides in Japan than in other places. Besides my deep expertise in Japan, from traveling to most prefectures of Japan — to the most popular sites and hidden gems. Thailand🪷, South Korea🍖, and England💂🏻 are the many other insights I have from my travels, including traveling in my home state of California.🐻 Immerse yourself in the digital travel guides on the right side here. ➡️ Knowing you are getting from a local traveler, including my personal favorites: Food 🍜 History 🏰 Shrines & temples - especially the shrine stamps ⛩️(Of course 😁) Museums Hiking⛰️ & the nerd culture Each of my guides includes tips to be mindful of culture — in other words, ways to not stick out like a typical tourist, including my personal experiences and navigating the city and countryside. Never hesitate to ask any questions, and if you like, you can also book with me and create your own personal and unique travel plans to make your memorial trip.
