Maldives are a startlingly beautiful collection of over a thousand coral islands in the Indian Ocean which epitomise exotic tropical paradise.

You won't need to carry cash to cover the full cost of your trip, though as mentioned you may wish to carry some $US for tips. These notes MUST be new or in mint condition as they will not be accepted by Maldivian banks if they are damaged, defaced or old and are therefore useless to staff as a tip.

Basically you need very little cash in the Maldives resorts everything goes on the bill which you settle at the end for which most people use credit cards a lot of resorts don't take debit cards however. You won't get US dollars at ATM's either in Sri Lanka or Maldives only local currency which you do NOT want. As far as I know there is no restriction on how much money you carry just not generally advisable. The cash you WILL need US dollars is for tips and any purchases you make if you take day trip to a local..So get a few hundred US dollars in India before you leave this should be enough although it depends on your tipping level the rest goes on the credit card

Since Maldives is a major tourist destination having resorts spread throughout the island, there is a wide range of food options for tourists, even vegetarians.

The two main mobile operators in the Maldives are Ooredoo and Dhiraagu. You can buy a prepaid SIM card from either operator for around MVR 100 (USD 7). The SIM cards come with a small amount of data, but you can top them up as needed.
