Top 10 travel tips for parents
You don't have to put your travel plans on hold just because you have children. Whether it be a roadtrip across the country or a trip across the ocean traveling with kids can be an amazing experience. We have been traveling with our kids since they were 9 months old and I have compiled my top 10 tips for traveling with kids to make vacations with the little ones something you will all cherish for years to come.
1. Plan Kid-Friendly Activities: Research and plan activities that are suitable for kids at your destination, such as parks, museums, and family-friendly attractions.
2. Bring Entertainment: To avoid the constant "are we there yet" question pack books, coloring books, and travel-sized games to keep kids entertained during long flights or car rides.
3. Snack Time: Kids get hungry at the most random times so have a variety of snacks on hand to curb hunger and keep kids happy while on the go.
4. Schedule Breaks: It's important to remember that our kids are not us. While they may have lots of energy they also have smaller legs and shorter attention spans. Plan regular breaks during your journey to allow kids to stretch their legs and burn off energy.
5. Pack Essentials: Don't forget essentials like diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for younger children. Carrying a backpack with these necessities will definitely save you from unexpected accidents.
6. Travel During Nap Time: Depending on your child's age, try to schedule your travel during your child's nap time if possible to minimize disruptions to their sleep schedule.
7. Use Technology Wisely: Kids these days can be so dependent on devices. We usually try to limit our device time when traveling however, tablets or smartphones with age-appropriate apps and videos can be a lifesaver for keeping kids occupied during downtime.
8. Safety First: Invest in child safety gear, like car seats and strollers, and use them according to local regulations. If your child requires one, you can always bring a car seat on board the airplane with you so they can sit more comfortably.
9. Involve Them: This is something we can't stress enough. Don't just drag your child along for the ride, involve them in the trip planning process. Let them help choose activities or places to visit to get them excited about the journey.
10. Be Flexible: Even with all the planning an preparation for a vacation you have to be prepared for unexpected changes and delays. Flexibility is key when traveling with kids, so go with the flow and focus on making positive memories.
Please be sure to save this for future reference. It can help turn a stressful trip into a trip of a lifetime.
