Ancient miracles of Turkey

Ancient miracles of Turkey

Natalie Mouses
Here I am sharing the best places to visit in Turkey if you are the history lover. Former Greek and Roman antiques are for you to see. I have itchy feet for such stuff but still haven’t explored even the half of it.

Patara Ancient City

And we start with Patara the ancient city in Kaş, which is close to another city different from it.

Here the ancient sarcophagus, columns and whatnot. It is a vast place where you can walk and see the history passing through your eyes. Numerous generations were here so that you can see not one cultural remnants. The place has been changed through years gaining parts of every culture, every historical event on its way.

My recommendation is to come in September or later due to the weather. Walking on the open air in summer like July and August especially, may be too hot 🥵.

Also as Kas is a place with super magnificent beaches and facilities you can stop over there and visit all around it.

Xanthos

Is only 8 km away from Patara that makes it a must see place. Though the cities are near, they are very different from each other.

The roads are quite well so you won’t have troubles to walk and pass.

There is a free parking lot near the city itself.

Be sure you have enough water and a hat, coz the sun in summer will burn you well.

Apollonia

According to the ruins, it was founded in the 4th century BC. The city is on a rock resembling the letter "L" and some of the walls surrounding the city have survived.

It is around 22 km from Kaş, and is quite less knotun than the previous two. Can’t say about the peculiarities of Apollonia, though the cities are mainly built on the Lycian way that is about 540km long.

Antiphellos

Is actually not exactly a big city - more a theatre whic is situated exactly in kaş and is usually visited in the evening to stay and watch the view

Nysa

The city, also called the Menderes Nysa, was quite advanced in terms of education and culture, especially during the Roman Period. One of the buildings used for educational purposes in the city is the Gymnasium, where young men are trained, and the other is the Library, which is one of the best preserved examples of Anatolia (dated to the 2nd century AD) after the Ephesus Celcius Library. In addition to these structures, the Theater and the Stadion are the structures that are the indicators of the developed culture of the city of Nysa. The political, social and commercial life of the city reflects the Gerontikon / Elderly Council and Agora.

Here is the list of just a few ancient cities (not the biggest ones), for the better experience and more detailed search feel free to look through the guides.
