Ahoy pirates! ๐Ÿค™

This is a guide to seeing late Cherry Blossoms in Japan.Arrived too late? DON'T PANIK! Check them out in April!

Most tourists come during the peak season to see the cherry blossoms called Sakura in springtime. But due to climate change, the sakura blooming starts earlier and earlier, and the forecast gets even more unpredictable. So, let's explore some easily accessible spots near Tokyo where you can still catch the late cherry blossoms.

Note:

Sendai: a Blossom Paradise

Just a short bus or train ride away from Tokyo, near Sendai, lies an incredible and picturesque viewing spot for cherry blossoms. The usually full bloom starts in the first week of April, providing ample opportunity for Hanami, the traditional cherry blossom viewing. The White River, set against a backdrop of beautiful snowy mountains, offers the perfect setting to witness this natural spectacle. Start your journey at the Funakoshi Station and walk or cycle along the river, ending at Ogawara Station. Take your time to savor the experience, enjoy some delicious Japanese food, and even try Hanami sake. For a breathtaking view of the Sakura with snowy mountains in the background, embark on a steep hike up to Funaoka Castle Ruins. Alternatively, you can take a cable car to the top to visit the garden and observation deck.

Late Blossoms in Hokkaido

For those arriving in Japan very late in April, don't worry, there are still cherry blossoms to be found in Hokkaido. Flights to Hokkaido usually cost around $40 for a one-way trip, making it an affordable option. As the snow melts, the spring season brings forth a colorful display, particularly in Furano. This picturesque town is known for its breathtaking landscapes, and the late cherry blossoms add an extra touch of beauty and charm.
