Barcelona in 12 Hours

Barcelona in 12 Hours

Kendrick Umstattd
In September 2022, I found myself in Barcelona, Spain, on a long layover. When it came time to return to the airport about 12 hours later, I felt satisfied with what I'd seen and done. In this guide, you'll find the essentials for a great day wandering Barna.

Getting to the City Center

I found public transit to be very intuitive in Barcelona. From the airport to La Rambla, a street in the city center, you can pre-purchase Barcelona Airport Aerobús tickets below.

Exploring La Rambla

Although my Spanish is decent, I found locals were quick to speak to me in English. Start at Pastisseria Escribà for a pastry and coffee and then explore the charming streets surrounding La Rambla.

I highly recommend ordering a coffee and a pastry here before wandering La Rambla.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kendrick Umstattd
hey hey 👋 My name is Kendrick Umstattd. By day, I am a senior software engineer who works on design for Google. I am better known as Drizzy’s mom (Drizzy is a French-Ukrainian Leo…oh, and a French Bulldog). I believe in doing work with purpose…and also using your vacation days. Before any trip, I spend tens of hours researching everything—the best places to stay, which bars have the best cocktails, what is a must-see and what is a tourist trap (that maybe is still a must-see). I use content from travel vloggers like Kara and Nate and Flying the Nest, TikTok, Instagram, Eater lists, Condé Nast Traveler articles, recommendations from friends, and “best of” lists to plan my trips. I understand that not everyone has time to comb through 37 hotels in Paris, plugging them all into booking.com to optimize for ambiance and price, so I’m here to keep my guides to the point. I’ve traveled all around the United States 🇺🇸, done a glacier hike in Iceland 🇮🇸, had limoncello overlooking Positano 🇮🇹, spent under 24 hours doing as much as I could on a long layover in Barcelona 🇪🇸, and braved a very long flight to see the South Island of New Zealand 🇳🇿. As they said in Mamma Mia, “The world is wide, and I want to make some memories,” and I’m hoping my help can empower you to make some amazing memories, too. ✌️
